Re: rate the last movie you saw
The Man Without a Face 8/10 Surely one of the best directorial debuts of all time, Mel Gibson's 1993 film comes across like Dead Poets Society or The Karate Kid but if written by Flannery O'Connor. Instead of a wise-cracking rebel like Robin Williams' teacher we get a bitter and lonely man who has ...

Re: 40 Years Ago Today...
I saw both Ghostbusters and Gremlins in Fresno, CA while on summer break visiting my grandparents. I had started watching Siskel and Ebert and persuaded my parents to take me and my sister to see both of these. Ghostbusters was a big hit with the family. I remember the theater being crowded with lot...

Re: Weekend Box-Office 6/2 - FURIOSA Free Falls To 3rd Place
And another one bites the dust...The Angelika Film Center, a chain that specializes in indie and foreign films, just closed its location in Plano (suburb just north of Dallas). I never went to this theater all that often, mostly due to its distance from my house. When my wife and I first moved to Da...

Re: Weekend Box-Office 6/2 - FURIOSA Free Falls To 3rd Place
Speaking of box office failures...all five Dallas area locations of the Alamo Drafthouse have closed as of this morning. As in, customers and even some employees showed up to find the doors locked and a sign on the door. The franchisee declared bankruptcy. And just a few days ago I watched a video f...

Re: DUNE 2: SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN THIS TIME - November 3rd
While I would agree that movies have been corrupted by television, but it's not because of dialogue. It's movies copying TV's current fascination with "binge" storytelling. I'm tired of 2 1.2 hour movies that can't even tell a complete story. And yes, Shaun the Sheep is a great example of ...

Re: Last Orders at Disney Canada
The Disney Movie Club is shutting down for good in the U.S. too. Last day to place orders is May 20. All membership agreements are considered satisfied and everyone is a VIP. The Additional Titles discount is 60% and includes the James Cameron 4K titles which are now $11.98 if you buy something at r...

Re: Rate The Last TV Show Episode You Watched
I really enjoyed the first season of Reacher . Lots of over the top (and occasionally gory) fight scenes with a likable performance by Alan Ritchson in the lead and some good supporting characters too. Can't say the same about season 2. The fight scenes are less interesting, the stakes are low and t...

Re: Andy's Youtube Uploads - Post-Siskel & Ebert SNEAK PREVIEWS Archive Unearthed
Andy, do you have more of the Lyons/Medved episodes to upload? I've been watching these lately and they're quite entertaining. They don't have the combative nature of Siskel and Ebert but they do play well off each other and are both good at expressing their views to the camera. I find it amazing th...

I've always liked Gavin Greenaway's music for Illuminations. One of my favorite pieces of music written for a Disney park.

Re: Disney's SNOW WHITE & HER SEVEN POLITICALLY CORRECT COMPANIONS
Really strange self-destructive behavior from Disney. First they claim the photos are "fake," then they backtrack and say the photos are indeed from their production, but not "official" set photos. The movie isn't even finished filming (I think) and they're already on the defensi...

Re: Truly Memorable Movies since 2000?
I think there are many reasons for the lack of memorable movies in the last twenty or so years. One is that "the movies," meaning films made specifically to be shown in a theater and marketed as such, finally lost the long running battle with TV as America's entertainment medium of choice....

Don't know if this reflects a national trend, but my local Alamo Drafthouse is moving The Little Mermaid to a single auditorium, the small kind with only four rows. The large auditoriums are getting the Spider-Verse movie.

Re: Rate The Last TV Show Episode You Watched
Rabbit/Hole (Paramount +) I really enjoyed this new series starring Kiefer Sutherland as a "corporate espionage" expert who gets involved in a vast deep state conspiracy. I honestly can't tell if the show is trying to appeal to right wingers or is making fun of them. Probably both. Suther...
