Re: SUPERMAN I-IV 5-Film Collection 4K UHD - April 17th

Not that I'm going to buy it, just trying to make it add up. How is Superman I-IV 5 films?

Re: RIP Burt Bacharach - Appreciation Thread

One of the best Oscar winning songs ever -- and here's a nice, rare live performance of it with Burt on the piano. Also have to give Christopher Cross credit, he always looked like he rolled out of bed and/or had beer and donuts for breakfast, but what a unique voice that didn't need "producti...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

The Silencers (3/10) Ok, I wasn't expecting Goldfinger , but come-on. I'm not sure if this 1966 movie was intended to be a James Bond imitator or spoof, but in any case, despite its entertaining setup, The Silencers is a total bore. More romantic comedy than espionage yarn, action sequences are at ...

Re: Halloween Horror Marathon 2021

The Night Stalker (1972) - 7/10 The Night Strangler (1973) - 7/10 Part of my regard for these titles may be nostalgia. I liked them when they were first shown on TV and have seen them several times since on TV and home video. This time I watched the Kino Blu-rays which look perfectly fine to me on ...

Re: Halloween Horror Marathon 2021

I'd give the first Mummy a much better rating than a 5/10- I'd say 7/10. It's pretty scary in some parts- I remember my girlfriend at the time being terrified. It's not a pure horror movie- more horror/adventure. And I think it's better than the last Indiana Jones movie! It has a lot of fun scenes,...

Re: Halloween Horror Marathon 2021

The Mummy (1999) - 5/10 The Mummy Returns (2001) - 5/10 The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) - 5/10 I had seen this Mummy around 20 years ago on home video but it didn't make much of an impression at that time. I can't say what prompted the notion but I decided to give all three a try last ...

Re: Halloween Horror Marathon 2021

The Haunting (1963) - 4/10

I was pretty underwhelmed when I first saw this years ago and it has not improved since.
The film makers attempt to generate some scares almost succeed (once), otherwise it's just a mentally disturbed woman in a creaky old house.
Maybe it's just too subtle for me.

Re: Halloween Horror Marathon 2021

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) - 6/10 Viewing this again (after 10 years), it's not really what I would call a horror movie, more of a suspense/thriller, the bizarre, nightmarish sets and (in the 1997 release by Image) Timothy Brock's score in early 20th century German expressionist style being...

Re: Universal Monsters 30 Film Blu-Ray Collection - $69

Great price if you don't already have these movies on Blu-ray.
I already have 19 of the best ones on Blu-ray, that leaves 11 that I have on DVD.
The DVDs look good and I'm not going to watch any of them often enough to get my moneys worth.
I am satisfied...

Very curious. Not only did a movie maker think this was a good idea but he was able to convince someone to finance it. Some salesman...

Re: Halloween Horror Marathon 2019

I intended to get to more seasonal titles this year but I don't like starting too early, and before I knew it, it's the 31st already! My sole effort... The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll (1960) - 5/10 Pretty standard Jekyll/Hyde story, the twist in this one is Hyde is the more "normal" looking of...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

VERTIGO (1958) - In the past I championed this film as one of Hitchcock's greatest works, and it was in my top 10 list. Time has passed, and while I love the film's technical aspects (its vibrant colors, Herrmann's beautiful score, the stunningly gorgeous Kim Novak...when she walks out of the bathr...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Honestly? I've never liked Horner's score to Apollo 13 , which is nothing but a grab bag of his Greatest Hits licks (a little Brainstorm here, a lot of Sneakers there) and generic "uplifting score" clichés (break out the timpani rolls and cymbal crashes!). I think people like the score be...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

I've used the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Moon landing as an occasion, if one were needed, to watch a few appropriately themed movies over the past several days. Apollo 13 (1995) 10/10 One of my favorites. Horner's score is also one of my favorites. Destination Moon (1950) 6/10 Enjoyable for what...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Picnic (1956) - 6/10 Not for the impatient, first hour anyway, but somewhat enjoyable despite the fact that I didn't find any of the male characters sympathetic. I'm unsure how old William Holden's character is supposed to be since he often acts several years younger then he looks. Of course Kim Nov...
