Re: rate the last movie you saw

Wonder Woman (2017) 6 of 10 -I caved in and decided to give this a look only because I inadvertently saw more films of recent note than I'd planned on seeing. The best part is Gadot is excellent and makes the part her own. I also was relieved that the film wasn't overloaded with feminist double-tal...

Spielberg and West Side Story. Cue the "Jaws" theme when the Sharks first appear? :)

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Seeing as none of those pilots have aged at all when they reappear at the end, it's implied the concept of time/space does not apply to the aliens or doesn't in the same way. So what they are doing to them/for them likely wasn't harmful in their minds if the abductees hadn't aged or experienced the...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

I've stated my reasons for being less than overwhelmed by CE3K in the past. I think the problems for me are twofold. (1) To me the whole film does not deliver on its build-up. It's scary and suspenseful at the beginning and then gives me a payoff that makes me feel not particularly satisfied because...

Re: Rate The Last TV Show Episode You Watched

I highly recommend Ellery Queen if you're finding original Columbo enjoyable since it is the same creative team of Richard Levinson and William Link and producer Peter Fischer. Both shows I feel are the yin and yang of the great 70s detective shows since they give us similar absentminded geniuses wi...

Re: Night Stalker / Night Strangler Blu-Ray (4K Restorations) From Kino

TV I know was formulaic back then and that we had to for the most part accept predictable patterns in most of the programs on-air (Gilligan will always foul things up to keep them from getting rescued). But a show like Kolchak which came out of something that was so groundbreakingly different in try...

Re: Rate The Last TV Show Episode You Watched

This thread is overdue for a bump! I have been going through in sequence for the first time in some years one of my favorite short-lived shows of all time "Ellery Queen" from 1975-76. Starring Jim Hutton and David Wayne, this period mystery show evolved out of the success of "Columbo" by giving us t...

Re: Night Stalker / Night Strangler Blu-Ray (4K Restorations) From Kino

The original Night Stalker movie was brilliant and it also demonstrated why the concept IMO did not work as a series where what was chillingly believable one time was boringly predictive week-to-week.

Re: Barbara Broccoli hints at possible female 007

WIth all the women Bond has bedded over the decades it'd be more simple to introduce a daughter of 007 in her own franchise if they are so determined to do it that way! (oh but then I guess it wouldn't be feminist enough to have a daughter taking after a strong father-image!)

Re: Barbara Broccoli hints at possible female 007

Don't forget Battlestar Galactica where the two signature male action hero characters of Starbuck and Commander Cain were turned into butch females.

Honestly, this industry is beyond pathetic.

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Pickup On South Street (1953) 8 of 10 -Now here was a noir style movie that really landed! Richard Widmark as a pickpocket who ends up turning into a 50s style anti-hero when his pickpocketing becomes unwittingly tied into a Communist espionage plot. Jean Peters, who impressed more than Monroe in "...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Krakatoa East Of Java (1969) 5 of 10 -I'd seen this once before in an imperfect DVD release a decade ago. I got the Kino Lorber Blu-Ray again at the discount price. Even though Irwin Allen has nothing to do with this, it comes off like a movie that embodies the worst features of Allen at the tail-e...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Witness To Murder (1954) 5 of 10 -One of my Kino Lorber discount blind buys. Despite the presence of Barbara Stanwyck and George Sanders in full villainy this film offers a reminder to me of how maddeningly frustrating "film noir" films can be for me. The notes plug the film as in the tradition of ...

the cruiser/destroyer kaboom, which has an intentional silent moment before sound returns to the mix, is somehow so confusing for fans that theaters are posting signs to tell them this is not a glitch.
