Re: Ridley Scott's Napoleon - Director's Cut Now Streaming

I remember thinking that if I hadn't taught this period of history, I'd be confused as to why Napoleon invaded the continent to begin with since the only context Scott kept giving us was his obsessive desire to get on with Josephine and have a son. I have to assume that part of the narrative still h...

Thank you for not captioning that with his closing line from "Double Indemnity." :)

And another reason for her appeal too. :) (this kind of pose is sexier than the Joyride disrobing one any day).

Re: JOYRIDE (1977) - Andy's Blu-Ray Review

Anne Lockhart said years later that when she did her disrobing scene she was suffering from a 104 degree fever and it was a struggle to get through it. And after she did it, she had second thoughts about having done it and from that point on refused to ever do any nude scenes again, which she admitt...

Re: Seriously? VHS is making a comeback?

PAL speedup is why I despised that format. I too remember fondly the days of going to video stores to browse for something to rent, especially if it was an independently operated one where you had a much wider choice of selections in contrast to Blockbuster (though even Blockbuster at its peak could...

Re: Read a Book, then Watch Its Movie!

Ice Station Zebra by Alistair MacLean (1963) -I have been wanting to do this for a long time. Back in middle school I remember reading the novel and enjoying it and then when I found out there had been a movie version I was excited and when I saw it I felt a tremendous sense of letdown when I saw h...

Re: KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES - Andy's Review

Maybe another reason why they can't stop doing "rise of the Apes revolting against human authority" stories is because they are so in love with seeing ape revolution as a metaphor for BLM protests? And naturally they wouldn't want to show them in charge becoming the oppressors!

Re: rate the last movie you saw

NARROW MARGIN (1990) 5.5/10 Peter Hyams’ 1990 remake of the 1952 RKO thriller “The Narrow Margin” looks the part, offering a terrific cast and crisp action sequences, but ultimately succumbs to Hyams’ own script, which regrettably is one of his weakest. In the midst of his prolific run of ‘80s/earl...

Re: LAST EMBRACE (1979) - Andy's 4K UHD Review

I saw this film in its Blu-Ray release and was unimpressed. Margolin is indeed a weak female lead, and what's worse as I recall the whole plot element involving Walken just comes to an abrupt halt in the film with no sense of resolution whatsoever. And a film that is telegraphing its climactic endin...

I want to hear a full musical production with the demonic chorus from this commercial going over and over, "Star Trek......Star Trek.....Star Trek......." :)

Re: rate the last movie you saw

I believe the idea is to depict their "Trump" like President as a coward before he gets killed? If so, then in light of the courage the REAL Trump showed when he took a bullet (even though the despicable FBI director and despicable talking heads on MSNBC try to say otherwise) the pathetic ...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

A couple more of my Criterion purchases from a couple weeks ago. These are some heavy adult films from my childhood that were not aimed at people like me (though I did see one of them and not the one you might think!) Being There (1979) 7.5 of 10 -I think up to that point in time as a kid I thought ...

Re: KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES - Andy's Review

And that is one reason why I have had little interest in seeing this entire new franchise. The vibe has always been from the outset that this is about the rise of the Apes etc. and the focus on them whereas people forget that one of the things that makes the original film a classic is Charlton Hesto...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

If you want to go through it, the German Blu-Ray which is region-free is easily available on e-bay where I got my copy and it's not too expensive. You just have to make sure to change the audio track to get English and not German (you don't have to fiddle to eliminate German subtitles thankfully, th...
