Re: MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Thread

Barring some kind of amazing rally, looks like FURY ROAD is going to fall short of the likes of PACIFIC RIM, TRON LEGACY and others. $345 mil worldwide right now, and it's almost done in the U.S. (will eek out $150 million) with only Japan and China left to open overseas. With a reported $150 mil p...

Re: GHOSTBUSTERS (2016) Thread

Agreed that she wasn't really making this decision based on the money. That's not her style. Although if they'd offered her a huge amount, it would be understandable for her to say yes to it. Not meaning that she wanted that, but that if it had been offered to her, she likely would have taken it, a...

Re: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (and Galactica 1980) On Blu-Ray!

Not sure if Galactica fans here had seen news about the release of this book, called "Battlestar Galactica Vault": http://www.amazon.com/Battlestar-Galactica-Vault-Paul-Ruditis/dp/1454913711/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1431104326&sr=1-1&keywords=battlestar+galactica I pi...

Re: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON "Galactus-Sized Disappointment"

When the whole score is as exhaustive and unmemorable as it is, it's pretty easy for it to be seamless. ;) Fair point, the score certainly is no "Superman" or "Batman", but in revisiting the tracks on iTunes there are really nice cues by Elfman, pretty darn memorable by current ...

Re: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON "Galactus-Sized Disappointment"

Well, I saw it this weekend with my girlfriend and we both really enjoyed this installment, more than either of us expected I think. On further reflection, I enjoyed it a bit more than the first movie, surprisingly. Sure, there are some aspects that went over my head, probably because I missed the l...

Re: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON "Galactus-Sized Disappointment"

I was reading a mostly positive review of this movie over at AICN and one comment I found interesting, in that this isn't really a sequel to the first AVENGERS movie, but actually a sequel to the four Marvel movies that happened in between. I only saw one of those, so I'm really going to be out of t...

Re: GHOSTBUSTERS Is a Go - Melissa McCarthy & The Cast of SN

Whatever happened to getting actresses with good comedic chops who can actually open a movie, like Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence? :? Oh yeah, that would cost money . How is it any different than the fact the original cast of GHOSTBUSTERS mostly consisted of SNL and SCTV players? Those were guys ...

Re: Oscars 2015 - The Year Nobody Watched?

A nomination for Zimmer and two for Desplat? I just don't understand film music anymore. No, actually, I do understand film music. People making feature films just don't. Like it or not, those are two of the best guys in the movie music business now. You can't nominate what doesn't exist and there ...

Re: Oscars 2015 - The Year Nobody Watched?

I think the 'adult' films are still out there, but they aren't promoted. They have zero promotion budget and they survive on word of mouth. The exceptions are the 'Oscar bait' films which are promoted specifically to win Oscars (whether or not their inherent quality deserves such recognition). Its ...

Re: Oscars 2015 - The Year Nobody Watched?

The most interesting category is Best Animated Feature with no nomination for The LEGO Movie, which seems to bother everyone except me because I'm one of the few people who think that movie is overrated. I enjoyed the movie, didn't think it was as amazing as others felt either...I guess the issue, ...

Re: INHERENT VICE - Most Annoying Trailer Voice-Over Ever

I don't know, I kind of find it a refreshing change of pace from all the cookie-cutter trailers over the last 10 years. It gets my attention and apparently ties into the plot since her voice narrates the movie. She sounds cheeky for sure, but I don't find it necessarily pretentious.

Re: JURASSIC WORLD - Hope the Movie's Better than the Traile

Boy...that basically looks like JURASSIC PARK I and II (with a Julianne Moore lookalike) stitched together. Nothin new here...moving on. Well, I mean, what do you expect? Any movie in the series will eventually involving running from dinosaurs, right? I think it's pretty neat that we'll see a fully...

Re: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (and Galactica 1980) On Blu-Ray!

Except that's just a demo -- they're not actually using new FX here, right? Don't believe so. That's correct, this was a demo done by an FX artist (I think they worked on Ron Moore's BSG) who then brought it to Universal to see if they would be interested in revamping the effects for the show. Acco...

Re: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (and Galactica 1980) On Blu-Ray!

I'm so ready for this set! I'm happy to get the one that includes both original and 16x9 presentations, plus it includes the movie-cut of the pilot, which I never picked on blu-ray. I'm absolutely excited.

Re: rate the last movie you saw

The other thing I find is that my tolerance for all these comic book movies and "popcorn" films is dropping rapidly. Growing up it was my favorite genre, but I'm realizing how much of my affection for those films was built partially around their music scores. Now that the music is no long...
