Re: rate the last movie you saw

I will see it but I find a lot of his work overrated. This looks like he put Splash and Black Lagoon together. Good to see Michael Shannon stretching though playing another "Bad White Guy".

Re: Disney Buying Fox? Ugh

It would but that isn't what's driving this deal at all. The Wall Street Journal's piece basically confirms what I suspected, which is they are buying Fox for the cable outlets, AVATAR and Marvel. Also that Fox as a film production entity is basically going to go away, resulting in even fewer movies...

ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL - James Cameron, Robert Rodriguez - Trailer

Finally a trailer....and it's disturbing! I guess that's the point but...yeah.

I feel like this movie has been in pre-production since I was just out of college.

Re: SUPERMAN 188-Min. Extended Version -- Coming to Blu-Ray!

I think any fan of the movie knows what it is and doesn't take it seriously as a dramatic work....it's a curiosity item. Frankly though it's still not nearly as offensive as that "Donner Cut" of II which was an incomplete editorial exercise masquerading as a finished movie! It's too bad he had to co...

Re: Quentin Tarantino's STAR TREK Warp Speeds to Pre-Production & HARD "R" RATING

Whether he has a good idea or not (I never said he didn't), it's certainly valid to question the wisdom of taking STAR TREK into "Adults Only" territory with f-bombs (no doubt that's happening) and likely a high body count. That goes regardless of the story and whatever the film turns out to be. The...

Warner Announces Major DC Shake-Up After JUSTICE LEAGUE Failure

To the surprise of nobody... Key points in addition to the addition/subtraction of numerous producers: “Justice League” suffered from a difficult birth. An early version, directed by Zack Snyder, alarmed studio executives with its dark tone. That had been the knock on Snyder’s two previous DC films,...

Re: Quentin Tarantino to do Trek?

This thing is really happening -- and it's really going to be a "hard R" too. I take back my earlier post -- this is going to be the end of STAR TREK altogether, but Paramount is so desperate, they'll try anything. EXCLUSIVE: After Deadline this week revealed that Quentin Tarantino pitched a Star Tr...

Re: (Not) Breaking News: FIRST BLOOD Is a Great Movie

In fact, I find it mildly offensive in its depiction of a Vietnam vet going on a kill-crazy rampage , no matter how "pushed" into it he was by Dennehy's nasty, one-note deputies Rambo's "kill crazy rampage" involves the unintended death of ONE character -- Dennehy's sadistic deputy, who plummets fr...

Re: Disney Buying Fox? Ugh

Excellent Deadline analysis shows what kind of a monster this deal would be. And what a massive mega-conglomerate Disney would become even further. I have a hard time believing the government may not give them a very hard time about this. If they're not allowing the AT&T/Time Warner merger, why woul...

Re: (Not) Breaking News: FIRST BLOOD Is a Great Movie

Leonard Maltin had a rough year in '82, handing out 1.5 star reviews originally to FIRST BLOOD, BLADE RUNNER and THE THING (ALIEN was also a 1.5 star film for years until it was "revised"). Not sure what he was dealing with at the time, but it must have been something!

Re: (Not) Breaking News: FIRST BLOOD Is a Great Movie

Michael, I'm with you, and at least Tyler orchestrated Goldsmith's music properly in RAMBO, a film I think is a superb action movie on every level. I plan on rewatching them all, so any additional thoughts can go right here! Audiences however begged to differ -- because they recognized that First Bl...

(Not) Breaking News: FIRST BLOOD Is a Great Movie

Sat down and watched this over the last couple of nights (these days, I often have only the time to break things up in multiple installments!) and came away with this impression: always thought it was (really) good, but it's actually even better than I remember. The original FIRST BLOOD is a really,...
