Weekend Box Office - Presidents Day 2018 Edition

Huge weekend for Black Panther buries the competition; embarrassingly poor gross for the Aardman movie even considering, however. Also JUMANJI becomes Sony's 2nd highest grossing film at the domestic box office ever (unadjusted).... 1..) Black Panther (DIS), 4,020 theaters / $76.6M Fri (includes $25...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

You got it Kevin, you're quite welcome! I wasn't aware something was missing from TOM JONES. The DP also signed off on the transfer so I took their word the colors were accurate .At this stage you either compare it to the past video releases or someone's very hazy memories about seeing it in the ear...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

DARKEST HOUR 7/10 I’m not sure if Gary Oldman is going to win the Best Actor Oscar but he certainly deserves it for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Joe Wright’s “Darkest Hour.” This somewhat predictably-drawn story relays how Churchill took over for Neville Chamberlain while dealing with the e...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

TOM JONES 8/10 http://www.impawards.com/1963/posters/tom_jones.jpg A movie that’s often cited as being both boldly influential as well as dated and overpraised, Tony Richardson’s TOM JONES is a picture that’s hard to classify. Is it a legitimate classic that served as a springboard to a renaissance ...

Re: Disney Buys Fox, Acquires Film/TV Assets, Fox Keeps Broadcast Outlets

Based on what I saw in the article, they seem to think the hold up is owning cable networks. Why wouldn't that also be an issue with Disney? I agree, it would be -- there are definitely issues there as well because Disney owns a slew of major cable outlets (all the ESPNs, all the Disney Channel var...

Re: Criterion 50% Off Flash Sale - 24 Hours

I keep getting 1 title per month for review, so I had a few to catch up on. Got the $50 certificate which I will save for the inevitable Toho box-set hopefully later this year!

Re: Criterion 50% Off Flash Sale - Later Today (2/14)

No coupons, shipping is free at $50.

It's basically the same as the Barnes & Noble sale -- but no tax.

Also, you get a $50 coupon once you hit the $500 mark.

Re: Weekend Box Office 2/12 - The Olympic Factor Hits

I can't believe this stuff. Seriously. Sometimes you think people are too sensitive (and they are) -- and yet crap like this ends up in PETER RABBIT?

Re: Filmstruck -- excellent streaming service for foreign / "art house" films

Criterion themselves actually licensed the Godzilla movies. Folks are hoping for a Blu-Ray boxset that finally releases most of them in the US.

Re: Weekend Box Office 2/12 - The Olympic Factor Hits

I think it's a given every kids movie has a shrill trailer -- must be part of the marketing plan. Incredibly PETER RABBIT is supposedly watchable according to the Rotten Tomatoes crowd -- but that's according to the same critics who loved ZOOTOPIA and SECRET LIFE OF PETS. I'm not dragging Theo to it...
