Re: Jerry Seinfeld: "Movie Business Is Over"

Preach Paul! And don't forget hits like FRIGHT NIGHT and FLETCH also. In fact here's the top films from that summer...note a few of these were spring releases that played during the summer but you get the drift! 1 Rambo: First Blood Part II $145,393,330 2,074 $150,415,432 May 22 TriStar Pictures 2 B...

Tom Scott's Rejected FLETCH Score

Saw Tom Scott's name on the Fletch trailer as I watched the new Kino Lorber Blu-Ray, and came across this podcast from a few months back where he talked about scoring the film and having it tossed. Honestly...I prefer the Faltermeyer score and the classic theme song he wrote...but it's interesting h...

Re: SUPERGIRL (1984) and METEOR (1979) - Improved German Blu-Rays

SUPERGIRL finally flew in. Again, Plaion/Koch has done a solid job. Additional extras like the US Tri-Star trailers are on here too, while the transfer on the 125-min version looks a hair better than the Warner US disc. The Director's Cut has been nicely upgraded, if those shots are upscaled you'd b...

Re: Jerry Seinfeld: "Movie Business Is Over"

I do think prognostications of doom are a bit exaggerated tho -- I don't think the cinema will become completely extinct. Live theater still exists despite predictions that "talkies" would render live performance obsolete. However, the theater certainly isn't what it was before movies cam...

Jerry Seinfeld: "Movie Business Is Over"

It might seem like a reach but the more you dive into his comments, he's right. Film doesn't have the impact it once did socially or culturally. When was the last time you even ran into a relative or friend who WENT to a movie? Instead I've run into more people over the last year in casual conversat...

Given the property it better not cost even half that.

Apparently the 2nd half of that takes even MORE liberties with the source material than the first part!

Re: KINDERGARTEN COP - Kino Lorber 4K UHD Incoming

The art of cinematography is mostly dead and buried in the digital age. Everything mostly looks glossy and very much the same. It's why you go back to movies from decades ago and just the look of them is, as you said MJ, interesting and different.

Re: Ridley Scott's Napoleon - "Clumsy, Funny" Critics Torch Scott's Latest

 Doesn't look like he's worked with Scott before either, other than this one, barely-released 2011 film he produced -- which was shot in Rhode Island (with some scenes filmed at our local hospital that Joanne worked at!).

GREEN ICE (1981) - Andy's Imprint Blu-Ray Review

7/10 Premiering in high-definition for the first time is one of producer Lew Grade’s many box-office wipeouts from the late ‘70s and early ‘80s – GREEN ICE (109 mins., 1981) – an appealing enough caper-thriller that, to the best of my knowledge, never received a theatrical run in the U.S. That’s pro...

Re: Extended editions

The Halloween TV cut was mostly (all?) scenes Carpenter himself shot during the production of HALLOWEEN II, expressly for the NBC broadcast of HALLOWEEN I. I've always found them unnecessary and slow the movie down, but they do establish that sibling element that comes up in the sequel. One of them ...

Re: Captain America? Phuck no!

Well that's the thing -- Disney won't leave them alone because it's not how they make the magic as George would say. What did Bob Iger say, that he watches every movie 3-5 times before it gets released? That's their whole problem in a nutshell. Says a lot that they continue to churn out this stuff a...

Re: Captain America? Phuck no!

Testing worse than THE MARVELS! Fraught with reshoots and no clear direction.

This video is an awesome example of what making a movie for Disney/Marvel is like.
