Agreed. While I grew up catching TOS in reruns through the 70's and 80's, it was TNG that holds a special place in my heart, along with DS9, the Original Series-crew feature films, and the first two TNG films. Anything after that just seems like cookie-cutter Trek. Voyager was nothing more than &quo...

With The Digital Bits' recent announcement that Paramount is planning to reissue TNG this September 4th in a complete series box set (in time for the series' 20th anniversary), I'm wondering just what will comprise the new box set. Will it simply be a repackage of all seven season sets of TNG when i...

Flash Gordon: Savior of the Universe Edition 8/7

The Digital Bits has just posted today that Universal plans to release its long-awaited "Flash Gordon: Savior of the Universe" Edition August 7 on DVD. No word on supplements yet, but it sounds like a sure thing that it'll be in anamorphic widescreen format and Dolby 5.1 sound. And if that...

R.I.P. - The power of three strikes again

This time it's Brent Parker, co-creator of "The Wizard of Id" comic strip with Johnny Hart (who just died last week); Barry Nelson, the first James Bond in the 1950's TV adaptation of "Casino Royale", and Don Ho, best known for the campy Hawaiian song "Tiny Bubbles", wh...

I gotta agree with you on some points, Andy. Granted, a double-dip is not always the best way to go, though it's only worth it when the content is definitely more than worth the upgrade - i.e., the LOTR 4-disc sets, the Gladiator 3-disc extended set, and of course the more than wonderful 14-disc Sup...

Spider-Man 2.1 on DVD

Andy, I've got to agree with you, "Spider-Man 2" is definitely one of the best superhero films of recent years, quite a lot better than (dare I say it) "Superman Returns", which I enjoyed a whole lot. (My wife, however, is sick of it, she told me! ) As for the new 2.1 DVD r...

Somehow, the thought of a fourth Indiana Jones film doesn't thrill me all that much. I thought the first "Mummy" flick with Brendan Fraser could have easily passed for an Indy film - all that was needed was Harrison Ford and another $100 million domestic intake to make it an Indiana Jones ...

Tonight is supposed to be the first satellite releasing of the new SR trailer, followed by a second feed tomorrow morning. I hope that it'll air on "Smallville", 'cause I'd sure love to see it! AICN posted its first thoughts on the script, and basically they're saying it sucks big time, re...

Superman Cinema has the first four parts of an 11-part article of how Michael Thau could reconstruct "Superman II" to bring it closer to Richard Donner's original intentions. It's speculative, of course, but certainly merits a look. Read on: http://www.supermancinema.co.uk/daily_planet/dvd...
