Re: Movie Attendance Hits 24 Year Low

Reading this article, you'd almost think, I don't know, that movies just aren't as good these days?

Re: THE LION IN WINTER - US Blu-Ray From Kino Lorber

Thanks for the news, John!

I haven't even watched the blu-ray disc which I own yet! But I think I'll wait until March for my next screening of this movie!

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Yes! The look on Roy's face says it all - he has found peace, purpose, meaning, fulfillment, etc., something that most every human being (I imagine) craves, desires, and can relate to. Agreed that it is a lovely moment in the film...and as a viewer, one feels Roy's relief and joy at that moment (in...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

One dimension of the movie that always struck me is that it tells the story of Roy discovering (and being placed) where he belonged in the universe. Looking at it later as an adult, Roy is in a broken home, a child who never grew up; he ends up being a surrogate father to the aliens (I always thoug...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

As someone who probably has a twinge of Asperger's or something similar, it's also very easy to relate to Richard Dreyfuss' painful struggle with the swirling, alien-implanted obsessions in his mind and making a choice between pursuing them and being the devoted husband and father that society expe...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

The image of Barry looking at the ship in the doorway is also probably the most indelible shot of the entire film IMO. No argument here. What also impressed me is that all the shots within the house (including the "open door" shot) were accomplished with lighting and camerawork and practical effect...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (*** 1/2) I'd already seen this film (in its various cuts) several times -- but long ago. I first saw it in its initial theatrical release, and later the "special edition" re-release, then again a year later on HBO, and finally on Network TV in college -- when I w...

Re: Night Stalker / Night Strangler Blu-Ray (4K Restorations) From Kino

I think for instance if every few episodes Kolchak uncovers something scary that turns out to be a hoax, we would then be more on our guard and be less sure about "is it real or not?" this time out. While that's an interesting concept, I doubt The Night Stalker could have found even the modest audi...

Re: RED SPARROW - Jennifer Lawrence as a Russian Spy - March 2nd

Looks perfectly crafted to technical perfection...but I get no emotional resonance from the trailer. Also, Jennifer Lawrence is an unimpeachably great actress, and a beautiful woman. But she doesn't come off as "sexy" in any of the erotic scenes. Maybe the film will be better, but the trailer looks ...

Re: TROY Director's Cut Wrecks James Horner's Score

If you compare the output of Horner and Yared, I don't think there's any question whose body of work is more significant and influential. Horner may have "recycled" material from time-to-time but that does not diminish his considerable -- and eclectic -- contributions to cinema. The rejection of Yar...

Re: Night Stalker / Night Strangler Blu-Ray (4K Restorations) From Kino

Truthfully I've never sat through more than a few minutes of the KOLCHAK series, was bored by what I saw. I was a fan of the show as a child (that is, when I got the chance to watch it -- though it often kept me up afterwards!). I re-watched a lot of episodes when it was available on Netfli...

Re: Barbara Broccoli hints at possible female 007

How did you feel about Timothy Dalton as Bond? Dalton is half-Spanish. He certainly doesn't look it, whereas Alba looked like what she was...an extremely pretty, olive-skinned Latina with a blonde wig and blue contacts. I personally see a definite a Mediterranean look to Timothy Dalton. In regard t...

Re: Barbara Broccoli hints at possible female 007

I don't want a Latina Sue Storm (Jessica Alba may be hot, but slapping a blonde wig on her head and eerie blue contact lenses in her eyes was NOT enough to transform that olive-skinned actress into the character), and I want my 007 to be a white guy, even if he's not "officially" British (as only t...

Re: Barbara Broccoli hints at possible female 007

I bloody well would. :? And that doesn't make me "racist"...it makes me someone who has watched a white, hetrosexual male in the role for his entire life. Look at how many people complained about Daniel Craig being blonde ...you think ANYone would accept Bond as a woman, or black/Indian/Chinese/wha...
