Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry Blu-Rays - October

Just saw the pre-orders. I personally think the Looney Tunes set -- which is 3 discs but only 50 cartoons on 2 of them -- is priced too high at $38 (for the Digibook) and $51 (the limited edition with Jerry Beck's 52-page book and shotglass). The Tom & Jerry set, which is only $23, offers 2 disc...

Re: Box Office 7/31: SMURFS beats COWBOYS AND ALIENS!

I didn't care for THE MOSQUITO COAST at all -- I don't blame him for making it because it was with Peter Weir coming off the triumph of WITNESS, but I think Ford made a lot of bad choices during his career. THE DEVIL'S OWN, SIX DAYS SEVEN NIGHTS, HANOVER STREET, RANDOM HEARTS, REGARDING HENRY, HOLLY...

Re: Box Office 7/31: SMURFS beats COWBOYS AND ALIENS!

Prediction: Cowboys and Aliens becomes kind of a home video success story for being something that's "bad" in a way you can laugh at it and enjoy yourself. Regrettably it doesn't sound like the movie is much fun. A few critics I read said it was lifeless, dreary and Harrison Ford has neve...

Re: Box Office 7/31: COWBOYS AND ALIENS "Underperforming"

LOL...I'm surprised, but not THAT surprised. In fact I think it's kind of funny. COWBOYS AND ALIENS might end up a bigger bomb than GREEN LANTERN. 1. The Smurfs - 3D (Sony) NEW [3,395 Runs] Friday $13M, Estimated Weekend $40M Sure, it's easy to look down your nose at The Smurfs, but it was bro...

Re: Box Office 7/31: COWBOYS AND ALIENS "Underperforming"

THE SMURFS $29 million....just INSANE. It's official...stupid parents will take their kids to see anything . :? I think it's one of those things also where parents want to take their kids to the movies, and right now Hollywood isn't giving them any choices other than, well, THE SMURFS. Ther...

Re: George Lucas' Red Tails Trailer

As far as "black experiences in WWII" movies go, I certainly hope this is better than Spike Lee's dreadful Miracle At St. Anna , but the January release date is not encouraging. Great F/X, though. I don't know, times have changed a little, decent movies get released in January these days....

Box Office 7/31: SMURFS beats COWBOYS AND ALIENS!

Like we all knew it would...those ads smelled like WILD WILD WEST all over again! They are in major trouble: bad reviews, a $150 million budget, pay-outs to producers like Spielberg and Ron Howard (who will take something out of the gross I'd imagine) not to mention Favreau. A likely money loser no ...

Re: HOW THE WEST WAS WON in High-Def -- Spectacular!

Just to be clear -- there is a pause for the intermission, but the Intermission itself -- the music that would've played there -- is gone. The movie resumes as soon as it says Intermission, which is how it always plays on TV (at least as far as I've seen).

Re: rate the last movie you saw

I just watched it tonight MJ. Loved the score which is really one of Herrmanns best. The story...let's just say it was something you could only do in the 70s lol. Watching THE FUNHOUSE now...with thanks to Arrow for sending off the first review discs I have ever gotten from the UK.

Been on an Arnold kick of late... CONAN THE BARBARIAN 9/10 This isn't just '80s nostalgia -- this John Milius film is seriously, absolutely good in every sense. Dynamic action, a story that actually pauses for character beats, James Earl Jones brilliant in every scene he's in, Arnold surprisingly co...

Re: HOW THE WEST WAS WON in High-Def -- Spectacular!

Andy, I've just heard on FSM that the Blu-Ray for Mad World doesn't have the Entr'acte. Is that correct? If it's true, then I'm afraid it just became a no-sale because if they can't keep something that's always been part of even the standard cut, then that's just a bad presentation. It's how MGM tr...

Re: "Golden Age of Blu-Ray?" Comic-Con Panel

There's a really good discussion about DNR at about the 40 minute mark, particularly how Warners threw out their first transfer of CHARIOTS OF FIRE. The LEGEND material is in there too.

"Golden Age of Blu-Ray?" Comic-Con Panel

Some interesting tidbits in this 50-minute conversation from Comic-Con last week, talking about the distinct lack of BD catalog titles and the future of the format. Charlie de Lauzirika mentions the upcoming Fox overseas Blu-Ray of LEGEND will be the best of all three versions and that it looks &quo...

I liked that scene. :(
Me too -- but you can get it on the overseas Fox region-free BD disc.

You just wonder why stuff like this happens!
