Re: FURIOUSA "A Mad Max Saga" - 2024 - Trailer
6/10 George Miller directing a sure-fire hit sequel that ended up bombing is not a new phenomenon. Back in 1998 he took the reigns of “Babe: Pig in the City,” a wild follow-up to a smash hit he only produced, and ended up directing a critically well-received yet bizarre, self-indulgent sequel that f...

$7 off tickets through Fandango with the TERRIFYINGTUESDAY code.
This can be applied to any show, so I was able to score a $1.75 ticket on bargain Tuesday night in a couple of weeks.
Probably a sign it's not tracking great if they're running a promo like this (through 9/3 at that).

Another great call there with Bowfinger. Pretty cutting satire with Heather Graham as Steve Martin's ex Anne Heche more or less!

Re: Opening in cinemas on this day, twenty-five years ago...
IRON GIANT didn't open on August 6th and those 3 wide releases were a mixed bag: you had one instant smash, one decent performer, and one money loser out of the three. I agree with Paul though - honestly there was a lot of junk by the mid to late 90 and it was quite a drop from the quality of the 80...

Re: LAST EMBRACE (1979) - Andy's 4K UHD Review
I'm just saying that kind of movie, and the people who scored them, was already making a comeback with DePalma. I mean, OBSESSION was all phony Hitchcock and Herrmann was tapped to score it. I see a stylistic/tonal connection between that and something like LAST EMBRACE, neither of which really have...

Re: LAST EMBRACE (1979) - Andy's 4K UHD Review
Big orchestral film scoring obviously had a renaissance because of Star Wars, yet I don't think of Rozsa though when I think of Williams, the styles are very different. I chalk it up to the ersatz Hitchock movement that people like DePalma started and his (and Scorsese's) hiring of Bernard Herrmann ...

Re: ONCE AROUND (1991) - Andy's Blu-Ray Review
I truly miss THIS kind of film being made today. I don't need Hallmark Channel schmaltz but human-centric dramas with stars made for adults are absent from theaters, and one reason I go every few months at this point.

Re: Elizabeth McGovern & Actresses Whose Careers Died
Great call there. She was terrific in Some Kind of Wonderful and Chances Are, gave natural performances in that range of movies you cited, but moved into stage work when the movie roles dried up it appears. Had 4 kids relatively late too, starting in her early 40s so it looks like her priorities cha...

hi Taran, thanks for joining us! I can answer both of those. I guess the questions I have about the unreleased rough cut of Clayton's folm are what scene was in pace of the obviously reshot hall of mirrors scenes at the end, The original ending didn't have the drowning flashback which was used in th...

Re: KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES - Andy's Review
Paul mentioned to me how sllooooowwwwwlllyyy the apes speak. That could've quickened up the pacing if they just spoke normally. By that point in their evolution shouldn't they sound like Roddy McDowall?
Instead the bad guy has the same cadence as Cookie Monster.

I don't know either, I mean, this generation wouldn't understand the nature of a hearty Italian just being expressive I'm sure of that. Grabbing extras and kissing them repeatedly is a different kind of out of bounds...wouldn't others have seen it? Odd that it's still going though if it is some kind...
