This is Universal though, and a Season 1 announcement is as far from a guarantee of the whole series on DVD as you could ask for when it comes to them! (Just ask the fans of Night Gallery, Dragnet, Adam-12, McCloud, McMillan And Wife, Hardy Boys etc.) Still, I guess it's good that a show that Univer...

I know this is a minority opinion, but I think "Supergirl" comes off better than its reputation. I think it's a much better movie than "Superman III" and certainly better than "Superman IV". The chief flaws were not giving us enough backstory on how Argo City came to be...

I think we can take for granted now that the "Donner cut" of Superman II will at last have Brando's scenes restored, or at least some of them.

Actually that guy "Al" was in the first movie. The lab guy Ted also returned from the series in the first movie. I think I read somewhere a couple months back that Paramount would release these in 2006 but I don't remember where specifically. For me, I'm more ticked off at how Universal (i...

I too was pleased to see that "Four Frightened People" will be available as well. The only version of that movie I've ever been able to find was a beat-up looking transfer from a 16mm print. As things stand that's a set with three films showing why Claudette Colbert was IMO at least the mo...

I'm not surprised that the show turned out to be as narcissistic and self-indulgent as the list of film's nominated were.

This has not been a good month for me for TV on DVD. Today, another bad set popped up and it wasn't even Universal! "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea" gave me a bad episode on Disc 3, Side A ("Long Live The King") and as with Kolchak I had to buy a new set. Now that episode plays ...

I guess the final question I've got is, just how do these work? When you load a disc regardless of region, it'll play fine or do you have to make certain adjustments and settings in order for them to play?

I think ultimately I'm inclined to pay a bit more for something where there's more of an easy guarantee of it being able to play all regions. Heck, to me paying as much as a hundred would be a bargain from my standpoint! I guess I'll explore the Phillips ones.

Forgot to mention that the LD cut of "1776" is another cherished item. I refuse to ever acknowledge the existence of the "official" DVD release.

Andy, what are the best region free players, how much do they cost and can one find them in the usual places? (Best Buy, Circuit City etc.)

I recall reading a few years back that the reason the long cut of "The Alamo" wasn't released on DVD was because the print for the long cut was mishandled after it was discovered and then rushed into a new release and given a VHS and LD release. You can still find the long cut on widescree...

I got to admit that is a bigger pet peeve of mine when American TV shows get DVD releases in the overseas market but not in the US.

Yeah, I'm really relieved that "Battlestar Galactica" was put out by earlier Universal management that was stingy in terms of quantity (the only other shows the old management released were Season 1 of Baretta and the Best Of Hulk set) but pulled all the stops quality wise on that one. Thi...

Universal And Their Lousy TV Set Pressings

This is the time I really need to go into rant mode, because I have after six bad experiences with a Universal TV set on DVD have hit the breaking point. I have NEVER in all my life seen a company with more shoddy workmanship than Universal and their TV sets in terms of bad pressings, freeze-ups, br...
