Re: Halloween Horror Marathon 2022

Always enjoy reading these reviews- thanks for sharing them. I'm not a horror fan at all, but it's interesting reading each post and learning some of the trivia behind the films :)

Re: Andor

I think the "Star Wars with an edge" thing is more talk than anything. Aside from a 15 second brothel scene (which shows nothing I wouldn't let a kid watch), there is no blood or guts, only 1 curse word I remember, or really anything that wouldn't be in Mandolorian. It's definetly a slower...

Re: Andor

Yeah, I totally understand that point. It's more the other characters in it that hold my interest..they would have been better off not calling it Andor, calling it "Rebellion" and just having him show up in it. Some episodes he doesn't show up in it till 20 minutes in! I like my Star Wars ...

Andor

Anyone watching the new Disney+ Star Wars show, Andor? It's 6 episodes in, and it might be the best Star Wars thing in years. No Jedi, no force, no lightsabers, but a slow building, tension filled show. Filmed on locations (not inside the void or whatever the led screen thing is). Tons of money was ...

Re: KING KONG (1976) 4K UHD International Studio Canal Release

Yeah, I was just kidding- I actually do prefer the movie over Jackson's. The score is great, it has some nice location shooting, and the leads are having fun. It's lacking in the dinosaur/monster fight department, as the snake fight is just lame compared to the Trex fight in the original, though :) ...

That trailer almost makes it seem like a pretty good movie!

Instead of a film that has this:

Re: Powerhouse Indicator Sale

Any advantage to getting the Harryhausen box set of the Sinbad movies vs getting them separately? 3 for 15 individually, but 27 for the set. I can't find any special about the box set.

Re: Halloween Horror Marathon 2022

Goosebumps (7/10) Mars Attacks (6/10) Watched these 2 with my 10 y.o. this week, in what turned into a Danny Elfman (and Jack Black) double feature I had forgotten how decent Goosebumps is- for a kids' movie, it is pretty well made. Good FX, humor that isn't stupid, and the kid actors hold their ow...

Re: Halloween Horror Marathon 2022

Is there a new Army of Darkness bluray? I just watched the old Screwhead edition, and the picture was ok.

I had forgotten it was rated R! Not sure why, as it was so goofy, and only a few swear words. Compared to Super 8, which I watched with my kid for the first time and it was foul language city!

Re: Kino Shocktober Sale

So I picked up a few. Only one was spooky/halloweenish. Theater of Blood, with Vincent Price The Bank Dick (WC Fields) Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid The Grey Fox One Million Years BC. Oddly, they gave me an extra copy of One Million Years BC. I thought I had accidentally ordered two, but no, they made a...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

I kinda liked it...I know it isn't very good, but I do find it very watchable. Gary Oldman was a good Dr. Smith. The FX (except for the alien pet blarp) are well done. The original animatronic alien pet was replaced with a CGI version, which was hard to do in 1998. There was some large scale puppet ...

I was at goodwill the other day looking for junk for my art students to draw for a still life....... and there was a TON of Lightyear merchandise. Goodwill tags for 50 cents on top of marked down Walmart tags!

I wouldn't let one bad time ruin 4k disks for you, especially if it's working fine. I try and get them for new releases if the price is good.

I got the newer Hitchcock 4k set and they do look pretty good!

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Tomorrow War (5/10) The wife chose this to watch on a rainy labor day morning. There was potential for a good movie in there somewhere, but we came up with better plot twists than the writers, and the plot holes were so big I wonder how the filmmakers couldn't see them. Spoilers: Chris Pratt does h...

Re: Disney+ Light and Magic

There is some fluff, but not too bad. It's not like some of the Marvel docs.

I enjoyed seeing George Lucas himself speak pretty candidly (and looking in better shape- he lost a few pounds in the neck area!). The archival footage of him at ILM during the early days is pretty interesting.
