Weekend finals -- very unremarkable, as expected at this time of the year. 1. "Four Brothers," $20.7 million 2. "The Skeleton Key," $15.8 million 3. "The Dukes of Hazzard," $13 million 4. "Wedding Crashers," $12 million 5. "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo,...

Are these movies just not available in a decent format or have they some copyright 'get out clause' which allows them to be put out in such away? That's exactly the reason. Beware the cut-rate, no-name DVD...I picked up GOLD years ago and it's just as you described. It's odd in that movie's case as...

Did someone say dog days of summer?
lol. THE CAVE doesn't look awful, and surprisingly, BROTHERS GRIMM looks better than anticipated -- visually, a lot like SLEEPY HOLLOW.

I'd say $30 million for either movie would be satisfactory for their financiers, however...we're not talking blockbusters!

Weekend Box-Office Projections 8/13 (FRIDAY Estimaes)

No surprises here -- tepid openings for the newcomers (GREAT RAID, what a bomb! But is anyone surprised? They basically tossed that movie aside). FOUR BROTHERS 7.1 SKELETON KEY, THE 6.0 DUKES OF HAZZARD, THE 4.3 48.5 DEUCE BIGALOW: EUROPEAN GIGOLO 3.4 WEDDING CRASHERS 3.2 156.3 CHARLIE AND THE CHOCO...

J-Lo notwithstanding, The Cell is a movie everyone should see one time just because it's different and you have to admire what they tried to do with it. If they'd had a real actress in that thing, I think it would have made a night and day difference. See Sofia Copploa in Godfather III for a furthe...

And I guess I'm in the minority here, but THE OMEN freaked me out more than THE EXORCIST- I can watch THE EXORCIST anytime, but THE OMEN is just too creepy and disturbing. Actually as a young teen who rented both of these films several times, I would agee with you. THE OMEN always made me cringe, a...

WESTWORLD Remake Back on Track -- with a Director!

This has been on the docket for a while -- years ago Arnold was attached to it at one point. The promising news is that Tarsem Singh, who directed THE CELL, is signed to helm the remake according to Variety. Though I felt portions of THE CELL were excessive, it certainly was one of the most striking...

in the AMITYVILLE remake wasnt the wife 25, too, but had kids of the age of 14 or something?
Exactly!

Melissa George was 28 when the movie was made, and the kid playing her son was 15!!

That may be the most ridiculous example of them all so far.

btw, the trailer for the FOG remake looks pretty good and like they have a couple of new and original ideas... I think it's a LOT easier to justify a remake when the original certainly could use improvement. THE FOG is a cult movie (and I gladly have it in my collection), but it is a VERY flawed fi...

As for the casting of Stiles...ugh! I agree with Andy about the puzzling and rather icky recent trend of portraying mothers with actresses so young that they must have gotten pregnant in their mid-teens (see also Carla Gugino in the first Spy Kids, a then-29-year-old actress playing the mother of a...

Kaufman's Snatchers and Cronenberg's The Fly are better than the originals, Carpenter's The Thing is roughly as good as the first (although both films are so different it's really apples & oranges), and Zack Snyder's DOTD is just a hair less excellent than the original. And some would take issu...

Mostly, though, this new Omen has to fight against 30 years worth of baggage the original film (and it's countless sequels and rip-offs) has left in it's wake. Let's not forget one thing: THE OMEN was panned critically when it first opened. It was NEVER regarded as a classic film. Even now, IMO, it...

Well this one is hard to figure: apparently Liev Schrieber and Julia Stiles are playing Damien's parents. That's right...JULIA STILES. All of 24 years of age! The kid playing Damien is supposed to be in this ZATHURA movie (or JUMANJI IN SPACE as it appears), so we're supposed to believe Stiles has e...

The Paramount DVD is 1.85. Certainly doesn't look like an anamorphic film. Trevor you're right -- what WAS the deal with that set-up? Flashbacks, narration, ghosts, Claudia Cardinale...talk about odd. Once the movie gets in rhythm it's interesting enough. Morricone's score is a real keeper as well! ...
