I need to catch-up.
As far as the ceremony, my favorite moment was when the band played the theme from The Artist!

Re: Oscars 2013
I hate to say it, but the only nominated films I saw last year were Brave, Prometheus and Skyfall.
Of course for most of last year I was usually getting home from work anytime between 7:00 and 10:00, which kind of curtailed my movie-going.

Re: Oscars 2013
This proves how arbitrary and subjective Oscar voting can be, and how much differently filmmakers and audiences perceive movies. His comments about John Williams certainly don't bespeak a musical ear. I'm so tired of this "Williams' scores all sound the same" attitude (which is ludicrous i...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
Coriolanus Unlike the 90s, which offered a cornucopia of Shakespeare movies (nine in all, if I'm not mistaken) virtually nothing by the Bard has been adapted for the screen since, and as such, Coriolanus is like water in the desert. I didn't initially warm to this film, as its style (particularly a...

Re: STAR WARS Thread: Harrison Ford/Han Solo Returns
Just came across this... http://www.movieweb.com/news/john-williams-wants-to-make-music-for-star-wars-episode-vii One of the many questions still yet to be answered in regards to Star Wars: Episode VII is who will compose the score. While nothing is set in stone yet, John Williams, who crafted the m...

Re: STAR WARS Thread: Harrison Ford/Han Solo Returns
Growing up, we went from 1983-1997, and had nothing -- no spin-off series, nothing at all, to satiate those of us who grew up with the series. It's not like Star Trek where it was one spin-off after another that lasted for decades, never mind years. Star Trek fans had the original series, then all ...

Re: STAR WARS Thread: Harrison Ford/Han Solo Returns
I like Star Wars just fine, but haven't we had enough? I'm tired of studios regurgitating more of the same formula instead of taking a chance on something new.

Re: Twilight Time: Full Schedule Through Mid 2013 Released
THE FURY has a great Williams score and some memorable moments, but also a very downbeat, ultimately depressing plot that's extremely uneven, and with a unsatisfying ending on top of it. The Fury was far too much of a downer for me -- but I do think the whole sequence where Douglas ties-up the old ...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
Yellow Submarine This movie is B-A-D , and unsatisfying on almost every level. Overall, the story is a slow-moving, preachy, psychedelic remake of Seven Samurai, that rather awkwardly builds a series of disconnected sequences around some of the Beatles' existing songs. It isn't even a true "Be...

I know this thread is ancient, but there is actually a bit of news about this movie.
Not much, but Brian Froud recently revealed the project is not dead, and he is still doing some design work for it...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
I never saw King Kong Lives in the theater, but had recorded it when it was on TNT. When I got around to sitting down to actually watch the movie, the tape ran-out about 2/3 into the film...and I was surprised to discover I didn't really care. The soundtrack album had a weird history. It was a...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
The Bourne Supremacy Maybe it is because I've spent the last month watching Bond movies, but I found this film one of the most tedious, uninvolving, emotionally-flatlined and irritatingly-shot movies I've ever seen. I liked The Bourne Identity, which had a compelling blend of mystery, suspense, act...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
Casino Royale For me this film was a refreshing change of pace for James Bond (especially after Die Another Day). I relished this more serious turn for the 007 films, and find Daniel Craig one of the most believable Bonds of all time. Director Martin Campbell delivers a much more satisfying picture...
