Re: SUPERGIRL (1984) Improved German Blu-Ray

Andy, appreciate your insight as always. Swarzc seemed like an efficient and very amenable person who was highly collaborative and, coming out of TV, was experienced working within a budget and "getting the job done." Doesn't surprise me with the turnaround he performed on JAWS 2 and the S...

Re: SUPERGIRL (1984) Improved German Blu-Ray

I wonder if Swarzc got hired in some capacity because he had directed Reeve in Somewhere in Time, in which case it still didn't help coax him onto the movie which is a shame. Obviously Reeve was not the easiest guy to work with it appears but I agree Eric the movie was hamstrung without his involvem...

Re: DUNE 2: SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN THIS TIME - November 3rd

We often poke fun and may be sarcastic about Zimmer, but the DUNE 2 score is a new kind of wretched, even for him. It adds NOTHING to the film (which I also saw last night). Not a single thing. It does DETRACT from it. This loud, obnoxious, grating, subwoofer-rattling "wall of sound" doesn...

That's one of the worst scores I've ever heard. Period.

Re: DUNE 2: SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN THIS TIME - November 3rd

I've seen the clips of the essentially B&W sequences...whatever maybe it works! I'm more interested in if I'm going to fall asleep somewhere between 7:30 and 11 tonight.

SUPERGIRL (1984) Improved German Blu-Ray

Plaion (Koch) seems to have a new licensing agreement for Germany as they've announced a slew of Warner titles over there. What is interesting is a few of their upcoming/new releases including SUPERGIRL. This two-disc Blu-Ray set includes the long TV cut (or Director's Cut) in HD (at least upscaled,...

Thank you Michael for the astute review! I am checking it out tonight during "Bargain Tuesday" so I'm ready to give it an unbiased spin.

Re: rate the last movie you saw

I assume it has the Producer's Cut (101 mins.) since that was the only version released on DVD (along with a workprint version on another disc). I have the Blu-Ray which likewise only has the longer -- and most people consider considerably improved -- "Producer's Cut" (101 mins). https://w...

Re: Dune TV version

No, unless they licensed it from the Germans, it's likely to be 4:3 only because that's how it was produced back in 1987-88. The Germans put together the widescreen TV version out of the theatrical cut and upscaling the TV version scenes -- there was a lot of editorial work involved and they did a g...

Re: AMADEUS 4K Theatrical Version Finally Ready For Release

Nothing official yet but clearly there will be a UHD from some label or another :)

I agree on the cut, plus I'd like to show Theo the movie and the theatrical version which is PG whereas the DC is an R! For the most part those added scenes slow the film down as you say Paul.
