Re: JAWS Blu-Ray announcement

hLWvXaeDzwU Magnificent featurette behind the restoration of JAWS which has been making the internet rounds. It's noteworthy for me personally because it's my favorite film of all-time, and Eric Bauer, the digital artist featured around the 3:00 mark, is my cousin. I knew he did this kind of work b...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

So is there no more background on the society and such in the book then? Interesting. I was hoping for more background on the different districts, the people populating them, etc. -- seemed to be a missing component to the story as far as the film went. Well, yes and no. You definitely get more inf...

Re: ITV's Titanic Miniseries Coming To US TV and Blu Ray.

I'm a huge fan of THE ABYSS. I like some of the scenes in the longer version but that extended ending -- while "making more sense" -- is something that I've never entirely cared for. Me neither. I totally agree, too, that while it does make more sense, it loses something in the expansion....

Re: ITV's Titanic Miniseries Coming To US TV and Blu Ray.

That being said, I am actually a very big fan of THE ABYSS which, if objectively viewed, I'm sure has its problems. But I'm just moved by that film. I don't know why but I think it works really well and the performances are really good (especially between Ed Harris and MEM)...the Silverstri score d...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Few quick takes: THE HUNGER GAMES 8/10 I haven't read the books -- and felt the film needed to impart a lot more information about the society in which the story was taking place -- but this is still an accessible (for newcomers) and compelling film, well made by Gary Ross and really put over the t...

Re: ITV's Titanic Miniseries Coming To US TV and Blu Ray.

I've never been a fan of Cameron's film, but it's been making the HBO rounds recently and I have to say that the hour or so between the ship hitting the iceberg and Rose's rescue, considered as one setpiece, is brilliant . The way it slowly builds, detail upon detail, always clear where everyone is ...

THE RING (Blu-Ray; Best Buy Exclusive)

Review from DVDActive: http://www.dvdactive.com/reviews/dvd/ring-the3.html I find the difference in the color palette to be a little jarring, but as the review notes I can't say whether the greener hues on the BD were Verbinski's first choice. I saw the film in theaters but my memory is old and decr...

CANNOT WAIT.

I don't normally take my wife to see movies she's not really interested in seeing, but I've already told her this one will be worth a babysitter.

Re: AVENGERS Thread - Movie gets new UK exclusive title

I'm just not remotely interested in this movie, even after the new trailer. I'm not big on comics-turned-movies generally, and there's really nothing in here to reel me in. I wish there were.

Re: Weekend Box Office - SAFE HOUSE, THE VOW Neck and Neck

From everything I've read, Tatum and Hill have surprisingly good chemistry and it really drives the movie. I have a lot of hope for it. Which is something I *never* thought I'd say.

HEY AMERICA PLEASE STOP LETTING CHANNING TATUM'S CAREER HAPPEN KTHXBAI

(In fairness, 21 JUMP STREET looks legitimately hilarious; maybe they finally found the right vehicle for someone whose eyes are way too close together)

God, ROLE MODELS. That's the kind of movie I get sucked into every time it's on, and every time the Marvin Hamlisch line KILLS me.

It's a little deceiving because they take the 50% from the MSRP and not their actual retail price, but it's still a good deal if you buy enough to get free shipping.

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Andy, from what you know is the eventual US release of the LW set going to be the same as what's available elsewhere? If so I'll gladly shell out $36 to Amazon UK and import the thing. There's no certainty Mike but based on based experience, I've got to believe what will trickle out here will be th...
