Re: BOURNE LEGACY Trailer

I'm more excited about Gilroy than anyone who's actually in the thing. I can't wait to see what he does with the property when he finally has the reins.

Also look forward to Renner entering the Pantheon of Tiny Action Heroes alongside Cruise, Statham, Snipes and Van Damme.

Re: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Trailer

I got so little enjoyment out of the Raimi films that I'm finding it hard to muster up any sort of interest for this one. I like the move away from Maguire's take on the character (any move away from Maguire is good IMHO; he's a very capable actor but I don't understand why so many movies are hung o...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Andy, from what you know is the eventual US release of the LW set going to be the same as what's available elsewhere? If so I'll gladly shell out $36 to Amazon UK and import the thing.

Re: rate the last movie you saw

I understand the fact that it has an "edge" with Gibson being suicidal, but that aspect is essentially ignored after the first 10 minutes so it didn't bring much of a dramatic element to the film (or at the least I think it's an overpraised component). It's not so much ignored as subsumed...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

I love the first film, though I get that in most every way it seems like it's ported over from a different movie universe. The whole franchise got sillier from movie to movie (LW2 for me achieves the best tonal blend), so it's always surprising to revisit the first film and see how truly dark it is....

Re: THE GREY - Great Movie!

I haven't seen the movie yet but I'm so happy for Carnahan that it's doing really strong business. Despite a couple of duds in between, the brilliant NARC showed what a very talented filmmaker he can be when matched with the right material. Hoping this paves the way for KILLING PABLO, and especially...

Re: Weekend Box Office 1/22 - UNDERWORLD #1, RED TAILS Stron

This definitely does not dampen my enthusiasm for HAYWIRE.

And of course it proves the old adage about critics having nothing to do with that the public likes. RED TAILS gets lambasted and pulls in strong numbers; HAYWIRE gets some ink love but none of it's green.

Re: STAR TREK 2 (2013) Starts Shooting

The thing is -- I WANT to like Giacchino. He seems like an intelligent and personable guy, he's an advocate for orchestral film music and one of the few out there who writes film music the way most of us like it. Unfortunately, he just isn't very good. That's really all there is to it...TREK was li...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE GHOST PROTOCOL 8/10 Great stuff -- and as close to a throwback to the old series, and the heyday of 007, as we're ever likely to see. A sense of humor? Check. Gadgets? Check. International globe-trotting and dynamic set-pieces? Check. Funny that it took Cruise really 4 movies to ...

Re: Movie crowds dip to 16-year low as apathy lingers

That's so true. Historically, the movies that galvanize the public are the ones that are new and different. There is no tried and true formula, or even genre -- look at American Graffiti, Jaws, Star Wars, Superman, Raiders, Chariots of Fire, Amadeus, Back to the Future, Ferris Beuler's Day Off, Top...

Re: Three Amigos BD.

Yikes, does the fact that I loved THREE AMIGOS! really make me an apologist here? I find it really interesting among the glut of Landis/Folsey, Ivan Reitman, etc, comedies of the time because the creative force behind it is Steve Martin, and it's his sensibilities that drive it. In that way it has m...

That's Nicholas Hoult, perhaps better known as Hank McCoy from X:MEN FIRST CLASS or the young lead in ABOUT A BOY.

Re: PROMETHEUS - Ridley Scott's "ALIEN" Prequel - Leaked Pho

I was really hoping Scott might give a young, ambitious composer like Abel Korzeniowski a chance to put something really interesting together, but I guess we'll see if Streitenfeld is up to the task. Not much was expected of Frizzell but his score was the best thing about RESURRECTION. With regard t...
