Re: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN - Horner NAILS IT

I don't love it *quite* as much as Andy does, but I have to say this is a terrific score. I won't reiterate all the points already made, but what struck me right off the bat, in the very first cue, is a sense of JOY in the writing. Horner's been around so long, and been so successful, and in recent ...

Re: WARGAMES Blu-Ray - August 21st

It's too bad that one of the best score cues in the movie - from the library montage when David is researching Falken - gets mangled on the Intrada album by way of a vocal version. Agreed, HUGE disappointment. Intrada's response was that "that's the way it was supposed to be," but given a...

Re: WARGAMES Blu-Ray - August 21st

WARGAMES absolutely still holds up, and may be even more prescient now than it was in 1983, which is miraculous when you consider what it's about.

I thought this was supposed to come out a year or two ago, but maybe I'm thinking of a previous release.

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Asia has been kicking Hollywood's ass in the action movie department for decades now (the current release The Raid: Redemption is a must). Best of all, no shakey-cam! :D THE RAID is fantaaaaaaaaastic. And not only a superior action flick, but also, at its core, a solid movie with some nice performa...

Re: VAN HELSING with Tom Cruise and a new MUMMY -- seriously

Ultimately, I think they went with the period China setting for 2 business reasons: the Olympic tie-in at the time, and the Chinese box-office being too much to ignore. Has anyone else seen what TITANIC 3-D has done over there? It's made something like $200 mil international, and almost HALF of it ...

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES - Final Theatrical Trailer

My only problem is if that's the story, Batman's sacrifice wouldn't be that big of a deal because frankly I haven't liked Bale that much and the second film was dominated by the Joker. What's interesting is that Eckhart essentially did a better Bruce Wayne in his hour of screen time in TDK than Bal...

DARK KNIGHT - Reactions/Analysis Thread

Link: http://tdkr07202012.com/ Thoughts? I've been reading a lot of blowback on various forums about this trailer for its dour tone, as in "Here we go again," but I have to say I like it a lot. Silence is used beautifully to convey the somber mood, and I don't feel like I've seen the whole...

Re: Mill Creek to Distribute 250+ Sony Titles; Many on Blu-R

This may be blasphemous given the thousands of quality movies that have yet to get the high definition treatment, but if RAD (yes, RAD) were among the list, I'd die a happy man. I'm not even sure who owns the rights at this point, though I think the original theatrical release went through Tristar.

Re: Mel Gibson, Joe Eszterhas in JUDAH OF MACABEE Squabble

It's not even as though he's this Great Writer, either. BASIC INSTINCT, far and away his most lauded film, worked because of Verhoeven and the acting and certainly Goldsmith's music, not because the script was amazing. They made a great film out of a good script.

Can't remember where I read it but Julianne Moore is being courted to play Carrie's mother.

Re: Region Free Blu-rays from other jurisdictions?

This will probably seem like a simpleton question, but I know that in the days of region-free DVDs, one consideration to be made was the PAL/NTSC conversion. Is that any kind of issue with these import BRs? Should I expect one of these BRs to perform different on my NTSC television?

Re: SKYFALL - New Bond Film - Official Details

More than anything, and this was touched on in one of the previous posts, I'm looking for a proper villain. I love the Craig iteration of Bond, but both movies so far have lacked a true adversary. They were more concerned with rebuilding the world and repositioning the modern version of Bond inside ...
