Re: THE THING Trailer - Remake City After All

Truth be told Mary Elizabeth Winstead is one of the few reasons I do want to see the movie...but it still looks like the same scenes from the Carpenter movie just reworked under the guise of a "prequel" when it's really more of a remake.

Re: THE THING Trailer - Remake City After All

The reviews are mostly bad aside from a few here and there that enjoyed it...that said, my cold and CGI special effects that apparently suck will be keeping me and my $10.50 away this weekend. (Admittedly my interest died after I saw the last trailer). I'll give it a look when I get it gratis in a c...

Re: LONE RANGER Confirmed for May 2013 Release

Like I said, action and special effects. The Mask Of Zorro (another throwback to a long-dormant pulp hero) had action and special effects (sort of), and it cost only $60 million to make. I wish studios would learn movies don't HAVE to cost this damn much. Spend less, make more...isn't that the bott...

Re: The horror, the horror...Halloween movies '11

Excellent film MJ, I agree. I'm overdue for another viewing of that one. I also concur, had it been released now, it would've likely been a much, much bigger commercial success. Funny, I seem to recall a moderate **1/2 review from you back in the day. Is it one of those films that you grew to appre...

Re: This Week's Column - Jurassic Park and More

It's a good price too, $60 to start and probably will come down too closer to the holidays.

Like I said, action and special effects. This isn't going to be a low-key type of western -- with Bruckheimer, Verbinski and Depp...you wouldn't expect it to be. 8)

Re: DIE HARD 5, TAKEN 2 and Other Fox Releases

They should have gone with Old Habits Die Hard as a title, but the studio was probably skittish about using the word "old" in the title of the fifth film in a nearly 25-year-old franchise. I like that one better MJ! It was actually used as a tagline for one of the previous sequels, but I ...

Re: LONE RANGER Confirmed for May 2013 Release

Wow, they shaved...what, twenty million? And it's still over $200 million? :? I think the issue is that Verbinski tends to go overboard in his productions, so even though the original announced budget was $250 million, they may have been worried it would end up over that mark. Now it's been knocked...

Re: THOR 2 Coming July 2013; Branagh Not Returning

Patty Jenkins is set to direct the film -- the first woman to helm a Marvel movie. Pretty interesting choice, at least it's not, well, John Moore or some hack...THE KILLING was certainly well done...though I expected with Branagh departing they'd have gone for someone more versed in special effects ...

Re: The horror, the horror...Halloween movies '11

Agree totally on THE FOG. A flawed movie but an atmospheric one that keeps me coming back in spite of its obvious drawbacks. Whatever you do, DON'T import the European Blu-Ray which has a soft, bland transfer with almost no detail (you can see this on Netflix streaming btw). I've mentioned this befo...
