Truth be told Mary Elizabeth Winstead is one of the few reasons I do want to see the movie...but it still looks like the same scenes from the Carpenter movie just reworked under the guise of a "prequel" when it's really more of a remake.

I think the issue is that Verbinski tends to go overboard in his productions, so even though the original announced budget was $250 million, they may have been worried it would end up over that mark. Patty Jenkins is set to direct the film -- the first woman to helm a Marvel movie. Pretty interesting choice, at least it's not, well, John Moore or some hack...THE KILLING was certainly well done...though I expected with Branagh departing they'd have gone for someone more versed in special effects ...

Agree totally on THE FOG. A flawed movie but an atmospheric one that keeps me coming back in spite of its obvious drawbacks.
