That may well be true. I wasn’t saying he isn’t.

What I am getting at is that he should concentrate more on the visual storytelling, instead of talking our ear off with boring, interminable dialog scenes which do nothing to advance the narrative.

Re: DUNE 2: SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN THIS TIME - November 3rd

^^ Well, in a way, I agree with him -- in a technical sense. Cinema is, after-all, visual storytelling, and the less a movie is reliant on dialog to tell its story, the more purely "cinematic" it is. Of course that doesn't mean "less dialog=better movie" -- A Man For All Seasons ...

Re: HORIZON: Costner's two-part western epic

Shame it's John Debney scoring this but what can you do, pickings are slim. Wish Costner had offered this to Bruce Broughton, or James Newton Howard (who did a killer score to Wyatt Earp ). Still, it ain't a Zimmer Drone. True. But I re-watched The Passion again last year, and I have to say the sco...

Re: JOKER 2 Costs $200 Million!

Found it hilarious the "gritty" JOKER is being supplanted by JOKER 2's $200 million musical extravaganza budget (complete with $25 mil payday for Joaquin Phoenix)...over 3x the budget of the hugely overpraised original. A musical ? Since the first one was a ripoff of Taxi Driver and The K...

Re: BEATLES Movies (Yes, 4!) Coming From Sam Mendes

Where's the Boy George movie? That's what I want! But in all seriousness, I'm not sure Beatles movies are destined to be the sure-fire hits someone of Mendes' generation assumes they will. About a decade ago, I mentioned George Harrison to a friend of mine who was in her 20s. She responded...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

^^ I've never seen this film, but I can't say I was exceedingly wowed or moved over any Robert Altman movies. He seems to have been a favorite of cineastes and critics, and emblematic of "great American cinema" in the 1970s -- by all those people who blamed Lucas and Spielberg for "ru...

"'...full of battle scenes that rival Peter Jackson’s 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.' "

Well that battle scene literally gave me a migraine. Pass on Dune II.

Re: This Week's Aisle Seat: Imprint New Releases

:x Who produced this release? Because Vangelis' score is in the wrong key in the film. The isolated score (as well the bits of score you can hear on the commentary tracks) are all in the correct key -- but the actual film soundtrack is in a lower key. I checked this against the various album releas...

Re: This Week's Aisle Seat - Kino Lorber Mid-Winter Rundown

Ted Kotcheff directed something in-between First Blood and Uncommon Valor ? Where did the find the time? Sounds interesting in any case! Glad to see The Big Country reissued in improved quality. I only saw the film for the first time just a few years ago, but was highly impressed. Jean Simmons is al...

Re: GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE - Trailer

I've completely lost track of the Ghostbusters franchise.

Does this one star the kids, or did they go back to the unfunny women? Or is it a completely new set of characters?

(My question is rhetorical -- I don't really care.)
