Re: The horror, the horror...Halloween movies '11

lus, it was pretty much the precise moment where Jack Nicholson started "Jack-ing up" the cartoonier side of his screen persona. And not only that, but he does it so EARLY in this movie too. He's barely been on screen when he gives lines like "did you hear that honey, he heard it on ...

Re: The horror, the horror...Halloween movies '11

Watched THE SHINING again on BD early today. This is one of those movies I've always been on the fence about, but in general, I agree with Stephen King's assessment that Kubrick gutted the humanity, the characters and really the point out of his original novel (which was probably his best, or the be...

Re: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL - New Trailer.

I couldn't believe I got the CHANGE UP, that Ryan Reynolds-Jason Bateman comedy, on Blu-Ray a few days ago. It doesn't street until the 8th, but that's basically just over 2 months from theater-to-video. Not that I'd have ever paid to see that in the first place, but why bother when the window is s...

Re: The horror, the horror...Halloween movies '11

I'd give DRAG ME the same...if it weren't for the lame, perfunctory, "that's it?" downer ending. :(

That soured me so much I've never wanted to watch it again.

Re: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL - New Trailer.

It looks alright, but I simply cannot get excited about a fourth "Mission Impossible" movie. Unless there's some compelling reason to go, I'll wait the 90 days and watch it when Paramount sends it to me on Blu-Ray. 8)

Re: The horror, the horror...Halloween movies '11

MARY SHELLEY'S FRANKENSTEIN 4/10 Utterly over the top, laughably bad in places and yet watchable because of the cast and the production design, this 1994 box-office misfire hasn't aged well either. Branagh's overly enthusiastic performance is matched by his excessively frenetic camera work, an overl...

None of which I could fully appreciate due to the HORRIBLE, non-anamorphic DVD Netflix sent me. :?
Was that an Anchor Bay release? I always thought the US DVD was 16:9 and THX approved...

LOL SUSPIRIA is all about the cinematography and mood. Definitely an "acquired taste" but there are many a horror aficionado who consider it a masterpiece.

Yep, didn't take Kreskin to figure that one out, lol.

The good news is if you want to buy the older releases at a very cheap price, this is your opportunity. It's doubtful the transfers/soundtracks will be better -- just the supplements will be.

Anchor Bay to Release Fox Catalog on Blu-Ray

It's funny how Blu-Ray is following a reverse line than DVD when it comes to catalog titles. In the early days of DVD, big studios would license titles out to smaller labels like Anchor Bay until the market became large enough that the studios wanted a part of it, and then jumped in and released tit...

A sure-fire cash grab to move existing inventory, then flood the market with the "real" extended Special Editions next year or the year after.

Re: The horror, the horror...Halloween movies '11

LOL Kirk Douglas in his old-man-phase. If they ever do that remake they were threatening a few years back, they should get Michael Douglas in his dad's role (he's about the same age now). Plus, the original had a 70's era Amy Irving. :D And Daryl Hannah in a very small part too as I recall. Speakin...

LOL Kirk Douglas in his old-man-phase. Wasn't crazy about that one but I did like the score (who didn't?).
