Re: The horror, the horror...Halloween movies '11

Gorgeous production design by Anton Furst (BATMAN) and visuals by director Neil Jordan that evoke the Hammer/AIP Poe films of the '60s and a brilliant George Fenton score really make this a treat that invites repeat viewing. Ridley Scott praised the design of this film, in particular noting its for...

COMPANY OF WOLVES 8.5 http://static.cinemagia.ro/img/resize/db/movie/02/20/73/the-company-of-wolves-822033l-imagine.jpg Man I hated this movie when I was a kid -- expecting a big werewolf movie (no thanks to U.S. distributor Cannon who tried marketing it like a medieval AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON!)...

Re: The horror, the horror...Halloween movies '11

Still, Carpenter's film is better. The Blu-Ray looks great, although I wish they didn't chop the great DVD documentary into a bunch of "U-Control" pop-ups. As I've noted before, the European Blu-Ray is region free and has all the extras from the DVD and HD-DVD -- documentary, deleted scen...

Box Office 10/23 - PARANORMAL Big, Newbies Flop

Hollywood will be thanking PARANORMAL ACTIVITY for breaking them out of their autumn slump. I'm not really a fan of those films, but Paramount certainly will be raking in the dollars given the slim $5 mil budget. It's the new SAW (and at least it's better than that FWIW). THREE MUSKETEERS disappoint...

Re: The horror, the horror...Halloween movies '11

It's funny how many fans of the Carpenter film diss the original, or claim that the '82 film is "not a remake". :? The 1951 film is obviously dated (I always chuckle at the line "Holy cats!"), but for its time, it was top-drawer stuff, and many scenes still pack a punch today, p...

Milla Jovovich Rips Studio Over THREE MUSKETEERS Marketing

This movie looked bad from the first trailer until the last...and given the reviews I doubt it was all Summit's fault. That said I always enjoy stories like this :) http://www.deadline.com/2011/10/milla-jovovich-takes-to-twitter-to-rip-summit-over-three-musketeers-marketing/ UPDATE: Hollywood was bu...

Nice! I'm going to watch that tonight.

The Region 2 DVD has a commentary by Carpenter on there... 8)

Re: The horror, the horror...Halloween movies '11

I plead guilty! Aside from the families of the cast and crew, few went to see RAVENOUS (*** movie, ***1/2 presentation, $34.98) last Spring. Badly advertised as some kind of terrible black comedy about cannibalism set in the 1850s, Fox would have been wiser to sell this decidedly tongue-in-cheek hor...

Re: Excalibur out, Battlestar Galactica In.

Writer hired... EXCLUSIVE: Universal Pictures is closing a deal with John Orloff to write Battlestar Galactica, a feature based on the Glen Larson 1978 TV series that Bryan Singer has long wanted to direct. Orloff seems equally pumped. What is it about Battlestar Galactica that turns grown men into ...

Re: The horror, the horror...Halloween movies '11

We must agree to disagree, Andy... Let Me In is a beaut. And most critics loved it. Most critics loved Peter Jackson's KING KONG and BRIDESMAIDS too. There's no accounting for taste and movie viewing is as subjective as it gets. As much as most critics liked it nobody went to see it and the audienc...

Loved the former...hated the latter.

Should rewatch the original this week though on BD. The Brit version has some good extras not on the US version (commentary, better audio) and it's region free too. 8)

Re: TRANSFORMERS 4-5 Back-to-Back - Statham for Shia?

I'd toss Shia out first. He's utterly useless, uncharismatic -- the most utterly confounding leading man of this generation with Ryan Gosling a close second (no, I didn't see DRIVE, but I've seen all of his other films where he pouts and gives the same "posture" in terms of performance). N...
