Re: rate the last movie you saw

Saw Avengers:Age of Ultron last night. It was a step down from the 1st one. The plot was too similar (not-threatening aliens replaced with cheesy robots), the action went on too long (you see Cap America hit a guy with his shield about a thousand times), and even though the movie felt long, the endi...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Lastly, the poster that advertised the film is one of the greatest ever designed-Art Deco to the nth degree with a gorgeous color palette and yet simple with just the image of the Rocketeer. One of the most collectable movie posters of the last 30 years. I agree! Love the poster- have an original h...

Re: STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY: ROGUE ONE - December 2016

This could be pretty fun- a Star Wars movie not focused on Jedi! Although I don't like that they are erasing Kyle Katarn from Star Wars. I realize this was coming with the reset canon, but I grew up playing Dark Forces & Jedi Knight..I want HIM to be the one stealing the Death Star plans. (and y...

Re: Thomas Newman Scoring Spielberg's BRIDGE OF SPIES

Newman leaves me cold sometimes...it's so dry and unemotional I guess. Skyfall worked really well in the film, but unlike the David Arnold and John Barry scores I don't return to it often. The Silva Screen sampler of his stuff is enough for me. The Good German just sounds like the love theme to Jaws...

Re: Secret Of NIMH remake...?!

Although the Bluth film is beautifully animated with fabulous lighting effects (better than anything Disney at the time), and the Goldsmith score is perfect, the plot/story is NOT really all the great. The bad guy is underdeveloped, there are plot holes galore: if it is so special that the Rats can ...

Re: This Week's Aisle Seat

Entertaining and a useful look at releases I'd never notice otherwise...as all your columns are. I always enjoy reading about these dvds that I'll likely never seen :) No mention of the Tarzan score by David Newman? I thought it was one of the better action scores of the past few years. Not very &qu...

Re: STAR WARS Thread: THE FORCE AWAKENS Official Title

Argh,I'm traveling to Pittsburgh for the holiday, and they don't get a theater:-(

I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but I don't really consider a trailer a 'spoiler'. Putting aside what I think about the prequels, they all had amazing trailers.

Re: ASH VS. EVIL DEAD - Raimi & Campbell Return for 2015 Ser

Very exciting news! I love Bruce Campbell..too bad he never really hit it big, but I guess he's too campy, quirky, or cheesy. Or maybe all three. In college he came to a campus showing of Army of Darkness and talked a bit- seemed like a really nice guy. He was lots of fun as Brisco County Jr, and I ...

Re: Weekend Box Office 6/7 - FAULT IN OUR STARS Huge #1

Not surprised...today just about every girl I teach in my 7th and 8th grade classes mentioned they were going to see Fault in Our Stars...most have been carrying it around, rereading it in anticipation! I read it as part of our school book club for teachers, and it was pretty mediocre and predictabl...

Re: GODZILLA - May 16, 2014 - Official Thread

Just got done playing the new Godzilla score while I graded tests during my planning period. I honestly forgot it was on. What a disappointment. Not one memorable track, theme, or minute. I don't get all the Deslpat love from soundtrack fans...I think the only think I like that he has done is the Tw...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

The Lego Movie 8/10 I was the type of kid who loved Legos growing up. I had them all sorted by color and size, in labeled drawers so I could easily find them when I wanted to build something new. Somewhere in her basement, I think my Mom still has a 3 foot long Queen Mary ocean liner that I made up ...

Re: THE SHADOW and BATMAN BEGINS - Separated at Birth?

I remember thinking this when Batman Begins first came out. I'd rather watch the Shadow any day. Better score, better art design, and an actual sense of humor! To me the definitive Batman will be always be the version from Batman: The Animated Series. I would watch that every day at 4:30 when they f...
