Magnum Force http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Y2F7daFbH4M/S9bt7lPVrII/AAAAAAAAFyw/O0US5S2Esvs/s400/Magnum+Force+quad.jpg Whereas many sequels are just glorified remakes, Magnum Force actually takes the Dirty Harry story in an interesting new direction, and is one of the too few instances where the sequel i...

Did you order from Amazon.co.uk directly or from someone selling through Amazon?

Re: Jackson to Make HOBBIT a Trilogy?

Yay, now here's my excuse not to see it. lol. 27 Animals Die During HOBBIT Production Surprising, given that New Zealand is a very agrarian country where livestock play an important role in the country's economy (sheep actually outnumber humans sixteen to one there) and animal rights are taken very...

Kidnapped (1971) http://modculture.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/kidnapped.jpg I was totally unfamiliar with this film, until it almost accidentally fell into my hands when I purchased a 4-disc "Michael Caine Collection" (which I only bought because it contained The Ipcress File, and wa...

Re: Jackson to Make HOBBIT a Trilogy?

I beacme a Howard Shore fan as a result of his scores for Cronenberg's films. His music really captures the cynicism, tragedy, horror, and coldness of Cronenberg's vision, especially in films like DEAD RINGERS and THE FLY, and I am moved by his music because it fits what I see on the screen. He has...

Re: Warner Archive - First Blu-Ray Releases Announced

I really liked Deathtrap, a fun "lite thriller" with all sorts of surprising twists. I already have it on DVD though. It's not something that would gain a great deal bumped-up to HD. Fearless is a very underrated movie. Peter Weir has yet to top Witness in my opinion, but Fearless is a tre...

Re: Jackson to Make HOBBIT a Trilogy?

Sounds like the same music he wrote for the other trilogy. You LOTR fans can go crazy over it!! lol I'll never understand the veneration of Shore's LOTR scores. While they're certainly better music than 300 or the Bourne scores, they are not "classic" film scores (like Ben-Hur, Psycho, St...

Re: ALIEN: ENGINEERS - Original "Prometheus" Script Online

Thanks for the link! I've only thus far skimmed it, but from what I could glean it didn't really answer any of the questions I had, like who the engineers actually are, or why they wanted to destroy mankind.

Re: rate the last movie you saw

I was thinking about the film a lot this morning (since I wanted to be distracted from schoolwork!)...I think maybe they dispatched the one woman so that "Bond's girl" could actually be M, who was basically a parent to him. I was actually thinking the same thing. The overall story arc was...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Overall I found the film very stylish and entertaining -- and far better than Quantum of Solace. Also happy that, FINALLY, it seems Bond is on track to be "Bond" in the next film as this picture's ending strongly implies. (I think the gunbarrel will be back where it belongs the next time ...

Re: LINCOLN - Trailer is Out

Most embarrassing is the film’s fake-looking lighting design — a reference to the bleach bypass process Spielberg used on "Minority Report" — that glares from behind the window of every sound-stage set representing interior locations, such as those in the White House. Sure, the Civil War ...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Altered States I've previously seen this film in varying degrees of quality -- on TV, on VHS, on a faded 35mm print (with an audience of loud, childish college students), in Westwood in 70mm, and on DVD. The Blu-ray isn't quite as impressive as the 70mm print, but comes close (and is infinitely sup...
