Re: rate the last movie you saw
Dune Part II (7/10) My rating of 7 out of 10 is something of a compromise. I found this picture far-more impressive than Part I -- the character development is better, plus the film has a lot more emotional resonance. Still, I wish both films had more visual variety. The different "houses"...

I'd rather you didn't make assumptions about my personal life (in a public forum). Thanks.

Re: Disney's ENEMY MINE Coming Soon
How much you wanna bet this remake is going to turn this into some sort of "gender fluid" Lbqtdhs# parable. It's funny you should say that. I'm part of a Maurice Jarre group on Facebook, and the other day someone posted this "interpretation" of the film (presumably in complete s...

Happy Birthday, MJ!
Agreed on Chinatown, one of the greatest films ever made, and a favorite of mine.

Re: RIP Donald Sutherland
He was definitely a quirky guy too. Years ago, Carlson2005 (who used to post here) relayed some anecdotes about Sutherland from when he worked on Revolution ... Donald Sutherland was the sane one, almost puritanical. Didn't drink, didn't seem to be using anything (though the hat and boots he had ma...

Re: NO TIME TO DIE [Bond 25] - October 8th
As much as I crapped on his hire, he did a more than respectable job here. And the "Cuba Chase" may be the best use of the Bond theme within an action cue in many years, certainly since a couple of Arnold's best efforts ("Backseat Driver") back in the Brosnan era. Bumping this t...

It's 16mm?Eric Paddon wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 3:40 pm But on general principle a 4K version of a 16mm element is the ultimate case of putting lipstick on a pig.
So they lost the original 35mm elements?
Not that I really care.

Gremlins (7/10) I decided to observe the anniversary of this movie with another viewing (I can't recall the last time I watched it). But this one doesn't hold-up so well. Gremlins is certainly "watchable", and at the time of its release was certainly different than anything else you'd see...

Fatal Attraction (8.5/10) This is the first time I've at down to watch this movie since seeing it in the theater in 1987. Fatal Attraction is a film that really stands the test of time, and is as effective a nail-biting experience today as when first released. What lifts this film above the average...

Re: 40 Years Ago Today...
Like every Starlog reader I knew about both films months in advance. Gremlins was the one I was more eagerly awaiting, as Jerry Goldsmith would e re-teaming with Joe Dante and I was eager to hear the score! I saw Ghostbusters opening night -- and saw it again at least four more times that summer. It...

Re: Weekend Box-Office 6/2 - FURIOSA Free Falls To 3rd Place
Speaking of box office failures...all five Dallas area locations of the Alamo Drafthouse have closed as of this morning. :( That's a shame. I'd become jaded about multiplexes, but I'd hoped a venue by like Alamo Drafthouse (created by and for film lovers) might catch on. Of course it would help if ...
