Roman -- with all due respect and I admit I haven't seen the film -- how can LEMONY SNICKET possibly be one of the "worst scores of the year"? I've heard the album and it's a typical Newman score. It sounds like Newman, it works like Newman, it IS Thomas Newman -- one can easily identify i...

Doesn't that hideous AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN PARIS count as a remake basically? I think that movie was bad enough to put the kibosh on any other installments. I can't see these remakes working, especially if not if the core elements that made them appealing in the first place -- like the original filmm...

MGM DVD Lawsuit

This seems like utter B.S. to me, but as I've received a few emails about this and caught wind of it online, I thought I'd put down some info for everybody. Basically, someone has decided to sue MGM over DVDs they allege have incorrect or mislabeled aspect ratios. ----------- According to the Hollyw...

Elisabeth Shue Returns!

OK I firmly admit I had a crush on Elisabeth Shue growing up (and who wouldn't after watching ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING as a teenager?). I'm not sure where she's been in the last 5 years since HOLLOW MAN came out, but she's in this apparently-horrid new Robert DeNiro (who makes one of these turkeys ...

I agree THE VILLAGE is the best score out of that group. I liked THE PASSION but it's not in a league with the other scores. FINDING NEVERLAND was quite nice, however, and something tells me if Miramax was able to hype the movie into a slew of nominations in major categories across the board, it'll ...

AISLE SEAT POLL: Best Original Score

Once again, which score do you think WILL win??

Feel free to comment on which score you think SHOULD win as well, but vote for what you think will cop the Oscar.

AISLE SEAT POLL: What Film Will Win Best Picture??

I have to confess I'm not entirely excited about this year's Oscar race, but just to gauge everyone's opinions, here's the first, official Aisle Seat Poll for Best Picture.

BTW, this is not what "should" win, but what WILL win!!

I'm not overly techno-savvy on this, but DTS has always been preferable to Dolby Digital among cinephiles. The main reason being is that DTS is supposed to be closer to the bandwith of an actual CD track. DTS tracks are less compressed than Dolby Digital, requiring more space....and all of this goes...

Have to disagree with you on GHOST AND THE DARKNESS, Roman. The script may be "aged" but to me that's part of its charm -- it's very old fashioned, like it could have been made the same way decades before. Very entertaining, and I also liked Goldsmith's score just fine. The way the score o...

I can say that I did enjoy JUDGMENT NIGHT and thought GHOST AND THE DARKNESS was really underrated (though I hated -- HATED!! -- Hopkins' LOST IN SPACE movie).

Mike,
Warner's official press release says only that it will have English and French 5.1 tracks, sadly.

Looks like a great Special Edition -- unfortunately it's being handled by a PR firm that hasn't been of much help to me in the past, so I may have to buy it myself ;)

Cheers,
Andy

I just checked and IMDB lists "Ring"/"Dark Water" director Hideo Nakata as being the director of an American remake of........THE ENTITY! A good choice for that movie, though I hope it's better than the original, which I coincidentally watched last summer for the first time. Pret...

Neo -- good point on FATAL FRAME. I actually have it for Xbox but have yet to play it (someday!), and I think you're totally dead on about the concepts of Japanese cinematic horror. They do, as you said, fall into their own trap, though on the other hand, I applaud their general lack of gore and att...

I read that also about the scenes "designed to tell [stupid] Americans about supernatural concepts" -- which I find utterly ludicrous. So they mean Western audiences actually demand a STORY and plot that has some kind of depth to it?? At least Western ghost stories usually have some...
