Re: COLUMBO Coming on Blu-Ray From Kino

I am furious to hear this. They've not only removed all of the commentaries, they've removed all the music/effects tracks promised and that means this is going to be as barebones a release as you can get from a company that's supposed to give us more than that (I have no interest in a shorter versio...

Re: Universal Monsters 8-Film 4K UHD Box - $46 - Aussie Import on Amazon

This is one case where an upgrade isn't worth it IMO. If they had *all* of the films from the Classic Monsters boxed set upgraded that would be different, but I'd be forced to keep the Blu-Ray versions anyway because the old boxed set has 22 more films in them.

Re: SHEILA LEVINE IS DEAD AND LIVING IN NEW YORK (1975) - Andy's Blu-Ray Review

Berlin had just one credit after this film until 1990, an episode of "Columbo" and she got it strictly through nepotism, because Peter Falk gave her mother uncredited carte blanche control over the episode in all facets which included script rewrites, gender swapping characters (and giving...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Tender Mercies (1983) 9 of 10 -I'd never seen this movie before tonight. The chief reason is because I never figured it would be of much interest to me because I am not a fan of country music and just never felt I'd be able to connect with a story about a country singer. I can see that I gypped mys...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Two For The Seesaw (1962) 4 of 10 -This was a hit play on stage in 1958 with Henry Fonda and Anne Bancroft. It's because it was a hit play that the movie ends up being largely a giant snoozefest because Robert Wise, in the film he did in-between "West Side Story" and "The Haunting&qu...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Circus World (1964) 7.5 of 10 -The last of the Samuel Bronston epic films before his company went bankrupt thanks to the failure of this and before that of "Fall Of The Roman Empire". John Wayne stars in basically a splashy European version of "The Greatest Show On Earth" set in...

Re: IRWIN ALLEN MASTER OF DISASTER Blu-Ray Box Set from Shout Factory

Well nice to see the long cut of "When Time Ran Out" will be there. Having that and the long cut of "Beyond" justifies having the set from an archival standpoint.

I hope we see something similar for the "Airport" movies eventually.

Re: rate the last movie you saw

The first dud from my most recent Kino sales purchases. The Big Bus (1976) 2 of 10 -Utterly, painfully not funny. I remember seeing just part of it on TV once in the early 80s on Channel 11 and remembered a little bit but until the sale never revisited it. Unlike "Airplane" which landed as...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

The Paper Chase (1973) 7 of 10 -The title will never get a Blu-Ray release in the US but thankfully there was a region free Blu-Ray last year in Europe that I managed to pick up. Definite improvement over the ancient DVD (a useless R2 DVD is also included in the set). I've seen it a couple times be...

Re: Kino summer sale

Didn't think I was ever going to order from them again, but some of these titles are ones I discovered I have the scores of during my reorganization so I figured I might as well get a few of them and be able to get hooked into the music. Juggernaut was an upgrade from the earlier release that had no...

Re: This Week's Aisle Seat - Summer Cavalcade Part 1

I haven't seen Ronin but I'd be willing to give it a shot in the future. It'd be nice to find just one film he did after 1977 that was worthy of some of his earlier work. And of course even without the gross-out stuff "52 Pick-Up's" other problem is the idea that any man would cheat on Ann...

Re: This Week's Aisle Seat - Summer Cavalcade Part 1

I'm convinced they cut out more of Doug McClure as the politician Ann-Margret works for because he was all but invisible in the film. Those porn shop scenes were basically Frankenheimer's grapes-orgy scene from "Seconds" on steroids to the max. He also insisted on putting in a drag queen p...

Re: This Week's Aisle Seat - Summer Cavalcade Part 1

"Rather seedy" is an understatement to describe "52 Pick-Up". I was so revolted by what I saw when I got the old Blu-Ray release as a blind buy that I not only had that "I need a shower" sensation afterwards I threw the disc away because I couldn't find a single redeema...

Re: IRWIN ALLEN MASTER OF DISASTER Blu-Ray Box Set from Shout Factory

Even though I have the TV cut of Beyond, I should probably ask what site that is, since recordings with network ads are not without interest! With Universal films, I know we're dealing with the problem of the 2008 fire destroying the video masters of many of their TV cuts. I was surprised the overse...
