Re: Disney's SNOW WHITE Pushed to 2025; Dwarves Return!

BR.com shut down the Snow White thread again... Here's a GREAT post, making great points: wonderer99 My thoughts from the old thread. When you bring politics into a subject it muddies the water so much but the problem with this film is very simple. You are cocking around with your own beloved...

Chick Flick rules the box office

https://variety.com/2024/film/box-office/box-office-it-ends-with-us-beats-exectations-borderlands-flops-1236103106/ With this and last year's Anyone But You , maybe it'll encourage studios to stop blowing $250 million, when they can make $25 million movies that gross over triple their cost in their ...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Horner's score is one of those lovely, emotional efforts that he became synonymous with during the '90s and the movie was well performed. It's funny how it's fallen through the cracks but it's probably mostly to do with Mel's tarnished star in Hollywood so to speak. But John you're right, it's curi...

Did they excise the creepy stalker...? https://media1.tenor.com/m/mXryXBpjpR8AAAAC/weird-rachel.gif Also how much do you think actual dwarf actors are PISSED at this? As much of a snit fit Peter Dinklage made about the film, this is taking work away from little people actors, just to give us ...

Re: Seriously? VHS is making a comeback?

But I honestly think some people regard the aesthetic of 80s movies -- the way they were shot on celluloid, with more complex lighting and with practical effects (and decent scores!) as somehow part and parcel with the home video format of the era. The thing is, there were "wait to watch it at...

Re: Seriously? VHS is making a comeback?

Do I have nostalgia for renting movies from a video stores? Yes. Would I want to go back to the days of fuzzy pan & scan videotapes with bad tracking? Good GOD, no.

Re: Opening in cinemas on this day, twenty-five years ago...

I saw a double-feature of Iron Giant and Thomas Crown Affair on August 6th, so the former was definitely released on that date. Just look at the VARIETY of those movies, though, all in wide release at the same time...a sexy, adult caper movie, an emotional ghost story, a superb animated feature for ...

Re: LAST EMBRACE (1979) - Andy's 4K UHD Review

Big orchestral film scoring obviously had a renaissance because of Star Wars, yet I don't think of Rozsa though when I think of Williams, the styles are very different. I chalk it up to the ersatz Hitchcock movement that people like DePalma started and his (and Scorsese's) hiring of Bernard Herrman...

Re: LAST EMBRACE (1979) - Andy's 4K UHD Review

I loved that after being "put out to pasture" in the 1960s (for being "old fashioned") Rozsa was suddenly scoring major Hollywood films like this, Time After Time, Eye of the Needle , etc. And his scores worked in those movies -- they didn't seem "old fashioned" at all...

Re: Elisabeth Shue alert!!! (Palmetto on Blu edition)

I seem to recall reading Roger Ebert's print review stating exactly the same thing, with Ebert arguing that having the casting of the female parts in the film the way it was would have been akin to a 50s noir casting Doris Day as the femme fatale and Barbara Stanwyck as the honest one. From Ebert's...
