Re: rate the last movie you saw

Logan's Run 8/10 I was surprised how much I enjoyed this movie. I had grown up with it, seeing it on TV every so often, but had never seen it from an adult's perspective. Yes, the 'world-building' isn't the best. A model is a model, but in pre- Stars Wars days, the expectations were lower and the e...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame 7/10 Entertaining, colourful and creative, I found this an interesting tonic to the standard Hollywood formula to the overblown action movie where the hero and the bad guy trade blows at the end of the film in some set piece building (usually an ab...

Re: $10 Fox Digibooks: Tora Tora, Hustler, etc. TODAY ONLY

I picked up All About Eve and An Affair to Remember (missing from your list Andy).

I already have a few of the others (Comancheros, Hustler, Tora).

Of the others, is there anything really worth having?

Re: Region Free Blu-rays from other jurisdictions?

I've heard rumours of a North American Cleopatra release.

Is this true?

Re: Region Free Blu-rays from other jurisdictions?

So I've ordered 5 titles: ZULU, OBSESSION, CLEOPATRA, PRINCE VALIANT and THE BLACK SHIELD OF FALWORTH (!) from Amazon UK.

Now the waiting begins, to see how much I get dinged on currency conversion and customs. :o

This is exciting. :)

Interesting - sometimes VAT is charged and sometimes it is not.

Region Free Blu-rays from other jurisdictions?

Any ideas on available region free blu-rays worth buying?

The UK edition of Cleopatra seems to be a no brainer, any other recommendations?

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Sherlock (BBC TV) 7/10 A disappointment. Especially the second episode, which came across as being plotted out then written to fit the plot points. The acting and production values are first rate. Martin Freeman as Watson was great from the get-go while I think Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock had ...

Re: Home Video Biz Continues to Decline

My local video store just recently closed. It provided many good times over the years. It's not just the 'big boys' that are hurting. It didn't help that 99% of their new releases were DVD only. Even though I'm into blu-ray in a big way, I never rented because they just didn't have any selecti...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Moon 8/10 Fascinating because it doesn't follow SF conventions (yes, I've been around long enough to call it SF and not Sci-fi). Also for one actor creating two distinct characters. It was hard for me to accept Sam Rockwell's dual performance since using the same actor twice in a scene can only be d...

Me, too! :D

Love the open water and sunlight. There are so few films filmed in the middle of an ocean.

Bought the Blu today and hope to see it soon.

Re: rate the last movie you saw

On something like I AM LEGEND, the ending of the Director's Cut (or extended cut, whicheever they called it) was hugely different and it sounds like the sequel they're planning is going to use that as a base for its concept (which would be a first!). Actually, The Descent 2 was a sequel that only w...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Andy, I just read you latest Aisle Seat. Can you recommend which version of a movie to watch when there are multiple versions (the theatrical cut, the director's cut, the special edition...).

I always get confused as to which to watch. :?

Re: Weekend Box Office 3/9 - LORAX #1, John Carter As Expect

I guess because it's based on Edgar Rice Burroughs books, I'm rooting for John Carter. The pettigree is there (by the director of Wall-E, etc.).

What went wrong?
