Re: Foxconnect 50% Flash Sale (X-FILES Seasons $85 Total)

Been going through the second season since I got the Blu sets last week (watched most of season one on Netflix when they added the HD episodes), and good GOD, does the show look amazing. :D The occasional stock establishing shot will look pretty bad, as will a handful of shots where Fox didn't have ...

Re: Independence Day: Resurgence

From IMDB: Music by Harald Kloser ... composer Thomas Wanker ... composer That's a joke. They couldn't even bring back David Arnold for this? This is a pretty great example of what's wrong with today's film music...the Emmerich/Devlin team went from Arnold to JOHN WILLIAMS, but every score for one ...

Re: IN THE HEART OF THE SEA - Thar Flop She Blows!

7/10 It was a pretty entertaining movie...the wraparound segments with the last survivor relating his tale to Herman Melville are pretty rote (especially as he narrates events he didn't personally witness, a la Saving Private Ryan ), but the actual whaling sections of the film are exciting, and Hems...

Re: SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN 2 - Trailer

Saw the trailer before In The Heart Of The Sea on Saturday...looks like a lot more greenscreen/studio stuff this time around, which is disappointing, because one of the chief pleasures of the first one was seeing a modern-day fantasy movie shot in real, beautiful locations. :( Still, with a trio of ...

Re: Independence Day: Resurgence

Honestly, to me the reason why "Independence Day" doesn't date well can be summed up in a simple phrase-9/11. In 1996, we found it fascinating to see an F/X movie "realistically" destroying famous American landmarks. But after 9/11, to me it made the whole conceit of why the fil...

Re: STAR WARS EPISODE VII - Lucas "Liked It"

Of course I remember the same thing happened with Phantom Menace. Went to North Attleboro opening day and the afternoon show was half empty. Sometimes I think people are scared away thinking its 1977 and its not lol Same here...waited in line a week ahead of release day for Phantom Menace tickets (...

Re: Independence Day: Resurgence

Despite all of the money it made, does anyone really have any nostalgic affection for Independence Day ? Maybe for those who were in their early teens at the time, but it's not an especially memorable film, evidenced by the fact it took TWO DECADES to see a sequel realized (and probably only due to ...

Re: IN THE HEART OF THE SEA - Thar Flop She Blows!

With the obvious exception of Jaws , has a nautical-based adventure movie EVER made money at the box office? Even Master & Commander , despite glowing reviews and an acclaimed director, barely broke even. And, sorry, but Chris Hemsworth is simply not a box office draw outside of the Marvelverse....

Re: TCM Big Screen Classics 2016 Theatrical Schedule

Saw Jaws this past summer (on my birthday, no less :D), and there's a movie that truly benefits from a large audience screaming and laughing in all the right places. 8) It looked and sounded very good, as well.

Re: STAR WARS EPISODE VII - Williams Not Scoring Cantina Mus

Fisher was lucky that wearing a slave costume was all they asked of her -- when you consider that at the time, Debra Winger, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sandahl Bergman, Kelly McGillis, Sean Young, Phoebe Cates, and of course Virginia Madsen were all appearing nude in movies! Truly the golden age of cinema. ...
