If this means that the Marlon Brando footage shot for Superman II is finally going to see the light of day, then I for one will be ecstatic.

Marian Keane, I think it was, on the Criterion commentary for "Spellbound" was the biggest commentary snoozer for me since all she did was look for sexual symbols in every shot it seemed like. OTOH, there are some instances where a production person like a director should not be allowed to...

Ben Hur demonstrates what supplements should *not* be about. #1-Commentary tracks should first and foremost be about the production and history of the movie, and should *not* be the occasion for highly questionable social commentary, especially when there's a lot of dead air time on the former point...

Another gigantic waste in the 2005 documentary was allowing George Lucas to talk about the "inspiration" of Ben-Hur on him for Episode #1's pod-race complete with clips. I think it's a disgrace to even remotely compare the two, and from my standpoint that scene only demonstrated how Lucas ...

I think I need a bit of clarification. The four DVD set contains the other movies as well as all of the Kong material that would be just on the two DVD set?

"Armageddon" just literally seems to go out of one's way to insult the intelligence of the audience. I don't know what was worse, the "animal cracker" sequence, or the ridiculous moment where Liv and Ben have to share this very inappropriate public clench in front of everyone els...

Unfortunately no, in the case of this film at least. By contrast, the supplements for Heston's other great Biblical epic "The Ten Commandments" blow this one's away (in terms of those that pertain to the film itself. I'm not taking into account the presence of the silent "Ben Hur"...

Yes, Rankin-Bass were co-producers on the film as well, though there are only a few loose connections with the animated series (the name of the island, a character named Susan and the "Dr. Who" villain I believe). Stuart Galbraith's must-have book "Monsters Are Attacking Tokyo" h...

Yes, unfortunately the extra footage it seemed to me at least, served the purpose of strengthening the beginning further, but the beginning was never really the problem with me. The real problem was how the film just seemed to totally lose focus after the first clash with the Apache. Amfitheatrof's ...

At last! It's about time we finally got some good widescreen versions of the US cuts, because truthfully it's been far easier to get widescreen dubs of the Japanese cuts over the years from collectors, while the American ones (admittedly inferior as films) remained only available in pan and scan. Th...

I bought this, and I have to say this: The person who does the "commentary" track for this film, if it can be called that, lays an egg big time. Not only is he profoundly ignorant of Roman history when he says it's inaccurate for Tiberius to be emperor in this movie, but that someone names...

Had to watch both openings side by side to see how the music credit situation worked. I was surprised to see that it worked that the proper music credit is there for the respective version of the film you choose to watch.

Major Dundee DVD

Just got this DVD today and I will be interested in seeing how this extended cut looks. I'm like many who always felt that the film started out great but then just seemed to fall apart completely in the second half. 13 minutes may not ultimately be enough to overcome the deficiencies, but it should ...

"Late Summer DVD Bash"

Slight goof in the review, Andy. "T.J. Hooker" was an ABC series, airing it's first full season right before "The Love Boat" and "Fantasy Island" (triple dose of Aaron Spelling!). I much preferred the arrangement of the theme music during these first two seasons. The th...

From a filmmaking standpoint, "Tora" is superior because it had the Japanese speak Japanese with subtitles and also had no dopey fictional subplots. "Midway" I think is undermined by the embarrassment of Paul Frees dubbing Toshiro Mifune, and also the whole annoying subplot regar...
