I meant more of a concert hall piece, full of atonality, 20th century techniques, long pieces that meander, etc...very academic pieces. I don't quite know how to explain what I mean...when I was in music school in the late 90s there was this almost worshipful attitude towards composers who really st...

I have to ask though....what if Corigliano's score did not "fit" the movie? I mean, just because he is John Coriglaino doesn't necessarily mean that his score "fit" the movie. I do admit that although I am a big fan of Shore's, he and Corigliano are apples and potatoes musically,...

Is there any reason why? I know Corigliano's participation was hyped up and I was really looking forward to hearing a new score from him. Severla years ago he came to Ohio State for a composer's retrospective and he commented about the difficulty in scoring films- finding a project he likes, getting...

I have a friend who prefers the Tangerine Dream score to Goldsmith's. It's interesting; I just saw the movie for the first time recently but was very familiar with Goldsmith's score. My friend saw the film several times when it was released in America with TD's score and in the past year or two hear...

LEGEND (1985) - 5-6/10. The visuals are gorgeous, and it looks very operatic (love the wraith/seduction ballet scene) and with Goldsmith's score comes across as something magical...but I just couldn't get into the dialogue, acting, and Tom Cruise. I did not see the version with Tangerine Dream's sco...

I enjoy a blockbuster here and there, and CGI (IMO) is both a blessing and a curse, as filmmakers tend to focus on the CGI at the expense of the story nowadays. IRON MAN was cool, but T4 was atrocious (IMO), for example. I was reflecting on this during the afternoon with every intention of writing s...

Nah. 3-D re-issues of those movies?? Two of the best animated features of the past 15 years, in 3D, for twelve bucks? A freaking BARGAIN, if you ask me. Who doesn't love Toy Story ?! I never saw any of them. They don't look entertaining to me. So I guess I'm one of the few who will never see...

You know, I am really mad at this. The only four films of Kurosawa's that I don't have are the first four, and if those are only going to be offered through the box set, then what a bilk and disservice. I'm not forking over hundreds of dollars for four films. The DVD madness never ends.

I haven't been to a movie theater in months. There is absolutely nothing Hollywood is putting out that I want to see. I couldn't even tell you the plot of any of the movies listed below. As an obvious corrollary: When Hollywood is just putting out some much junk en masse...is it any wonder film mus...

Perhaps this means GREMLINS will finally surface next week from Varese (or possibly FSM if not), though the fact they didn't "tease" us with any details probably means it's nothing THAT big. Or they are trying to lull us into a false sense of security and then BAM! they hit us with the bi...

Bleeech. I never cared for the 86 version, or really any version, of this story. But for the fans of the movie this has got to be one of those head-scratching moments, and even though I'm not a big Cronenberg fan and never have been, it seems beneath him to be tackling something like this. The thou...

And perhaps that means that someone has their hands on the score and is going to release it...like maybe Varese?
