Re: IRWIN ALLEN MASTER OF DISASTER Blu-Ray Box Set from Shout Factory

WHEN TIME RAN OUT I've never seen the longer version of and have only faint memories of ever watching it...in fact I'm not sure I've ever really seen it all the way through. It was never in widescreen until the Archive DVD, as memory serves the laserdisc was cropped (?), so I've been holding out fo...

Re: IRWIN ALLEN MASTER OF DISASTER Blu-Ray Box Set from Shout Factory

The administrator of a Poseidon Adventure FB group just confirmed that he is now giving bonus materials to Shout! to help them with the release which it looks like will include the extended TV cut, or at minimum the extra footage as a bonus. "Blu-ray update. I am officially helping Shout with t...

Re: INDIANA JONES & THE DIAL OF DESTINY - Andy's Review

When did movie studios start thinking what we wanted from our childhood heroes was to see them old, broken, miserable failures? :? Half the reason why Top Gun: Maverick went through the roof at the box office was because Tom Cruise was still portrayed as...well, top gun. He had his late-middle-aged...

Re: Calls to Save TCM After Top Staff Fired

This to me vindicates my decision years ago to rely only on physical content in my collection for what I watch. I never have to worry about losing access to something unless I decide to throw it away and feel remorseful about it later!

Re: IRWIN ALLEN MASTER OF DISASTER Blu-Ray Box Set from Shout Factory

All of the TV-movies were previously released by Warner on DVD in the Warner Archive series. I have seen "Flood" and "Fire" and they're your standard type of TV version knockoff of big screen type stuff. Amazing that "no elements" exist for the long version. They couldn...

Re: Truly Memorable Movies since 2000?

To see how much they've failed: Disney's STAR WARS toys have been a TOTAL dud -- they've failed to rake in the merchandising money they thought they were going to get when they bought the company. "The kids" just don't care and Disney has turned what was a "special event" franch...

Just the same extras as before which is unfortunate. Looks like to get your TV cut released you have to be a lower-tiered Universal title!

Re: Read a Book, then Watch Its Movie!

Seconds by David Ely (1963) -Did this in reverse order since I saw the movie again and only learned from the credit that it was based on a novel, which I'd forgotten. Found it on Kindle and went through it after the movie which is what I recommend because it's easier to breeze through just after se...

Re: INDIANA JONES & THE DIAL OF DESTINY - 1st Reviews: "Complete Waste of Time"

Honestly, I'm reaching a point where I'd like to revisit "Star Wars" and pretend that there were no sequels afterwards. No "I am your Father!". No, "Leia is my sister!" I miss the innocence of the original story when everything afterwards was a blank canvas. These "...

Re: Eddie Murphy and THE PINK PANTHER

The reason the series worked was entirely because of Sellers. He was one of a kind in what he did and NO ONE else could do this character or continue that franchise. Some characters can be played by other actors but other characters are for one actor only. You can't have someone else do Clouseau or ...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Firefox (1982) 8.5 of 10 -A seriously underrated Cold War thriller that IMO got a bum rap from critics because after a decade of "moral equivalence" movies regarding the Cold War or detente movies in which KGB directors were lovable teddy bears (Walter Gotell in the Bond films), here was ...

Re: MIDWAY Special Edition (with Andy's TV Version?) Plus GRAY LADY DOWN, MacARTHUR Coming from Powerhouse Indicator

Universal didn't seem to have much faith in the film. It had been shot in late 76 and the beginning of 77 (it's the last film covered in Heston's "Actor's Life" journal) but because all the Navy scenes were shot simultaneous with "Airport '77" Universal decided to keep the film o...

Re: MIDWAY Special Edition (with Andy's TV Version?) Plus GRAY LADY DOWN, MacARTHUR Coming from Powerhouse Indicator

I was able to go through this by ripping the foreign region Blu-Ray to my computer and then reconverting it to a Blu-Ray that would play on my machine. Good supplements and the commentary as I recall was decent. It didn't touch on how the movie has almost zero resemblance to its credited source nove...

Re: Rocketeer Blu-Ray in December

I have never seen the film. And I *think* one of the reasons why I passed on it back in my college days was that when I saw the lead was Bill Campbell, all I could think of was him as Stephen Carrington's gay lover who gets blown away in the infamous "Moldavia Massacre" storyline of "...

The irony is that what they are doing is exactly the same as having Mickey Rooney play Mr. Yunioshi.
