No way that could be THE Oliver Stone....although....he did get busted for a DUI or something like that not long ago, and ALEXANDER tanked, for which he blamed everyone else but himself. So maybe this isn't so far a stretch. Tarantino and FRIDAY THE 13TH....hmmm.....IT.....COULD.....WORK!! (in best ...

. The TV newscasts are used to explain what's going on, but when they reached the wife's home, they don't turn on the TV to see what's happening? Gimme a break. That was one of my main problems as well. The attack on the SUV was also a terrible scene in my mind because it really made no sense, when...

SCHINDLER'S LIST and SPR were heavy subjects, but WWII was always a fascination for him. MR and WOTW has a protagonist who is adult but clearly stunted in his growth and maturity as an adult- he doesn't have the innocence of a child or a child's wonderment or imagination...he's just stopped growing...

So question is: What is Speilberg saying about him self this time? Perhaps he has lost touch with that part of himself that made films of fancy that we all came to know and love. It's clear to me that this movie is flawed in ways that his more mature, or serious films aren't. THE COLOR PURPLE and E...

Years ago Spielberg would have made this movie with Dreyfuss or another person you wouldn't have ordinarily thought about for the role. These days, though, Spielberg works with the likes of Cruise, Tom Hanks, etc., and in that regard I think he's lost some of what distinguished his earlier movies. *...

I just got back from seeing it. I suppose I should take a bit to let it digest, but here are my initial impressions: 1) Why in the world is Tim Robbins taking all these "crazy lunatic" roles- remember his role in MYSTIC RIVER? I thought it was kind of interesting that he got to say some di...

Ok- just saw the trailer. Looks like JURASSIC PARK meets LOTR. I don't remember the original too well (it's been years since I saw it). However, I like Kong's movements (much more ape-like than previous films); I like that last shot in the trailer (when Kong is growling into the camera). I was afrai...

If he's trying to put political subtext into WOTW, that might be new territory for him. Not entirely. He did flirt very mildly with criticism of the Patriot Act and surrounding anti-terrorist paranoia with Minority Report , but when marketing the film was extremely careful not to actually take a st...

The score for Minority Report had much stronger melodic lines in the action than WOTW, pretty easy to remember, also the theme was pretty nice and strong... here it is all kept very functional. If Andy didnt like MR, he will probably hate this. I like it, though the days of a score like Indy II or ...

War of the Worlds is not a feelgood happytime shoot-em-up story and never has been: it's one of those apocalyptic stories that gets wheeled out whenever people are feeling particularly insecure. True, but why do I have this cynical impression it's more about another attempt by Spielberg to be "...

I saw an extended trailer in the theaters today (rather than the teasers on TV), and while I think that this has potential I hope that Depp is allowed to let his comedic skills shine through. The trailers make him seem so rigid and "forced" to act. Burton is another director who consistent...

Re: The End of MGM

As far as the PINK PANTHER goes, I've read it was pushed back until Winter 2006 -- which I can understand judging by how utterly godawful the trailers looked. I'm guessing maybe the Sony folks saw it and want to re-shoot parts of it...or something. I just hope that PANTHER CARTOON set and the other ...

AndyDursin wrote:The Pendragon version is AWFUL. Like, really hideous. Acting as bad as anything you'll see, special effects that look like a 1995 PC video game...in short it's hysterically bad.

And possibly worth your $8 just to see it...and heck it's 180 minutes long too!
Thanks for the info- I'll skip that one.

Remember, the majority of the potential audience for KONG (25 and under) probably hasn't seen the '33 original or the '76 remake. Or if they have, they think they were cheesy. I know that sounds like blasphemy to us "true" film fans, but just ask your "average" teenager. They ar...

LOST IN LA MANCHA was incredibly entertaining and I urged all my friends to watch it. Gilliam is a bit too full of himself. I saw the trailer for his new film today and I thought it looked like territory he'd be comfortable in, but it remains to be seen if it's good or not. I personally thought that...
