Re: HOBBIT Budgets Total $560 Million -- So Far
For all the money spent on The Hobbit, I thought film was a near-total misfire. Jackson was clearly attempting to make a Middle Earth version of the Star Wars prequels, resulting in an unnecessarily convoluted narrative. Irrelevant plot tangents were cherrypicked from the Tolkien's "world buil...

MJ, check out THE PROWLER if you haven't seen it yet. Underrated slasher flick from the time featuring great early work by Tom Savini.

Re: GODZILLA - May 14, 2014 from Warner Bros.
The tone? Obviously we'll see. If it's just a concept trailer, then who knows -- I'm just not sure how a deadly serious, pretentious Godzilla movie is going to go over with most viewers outside the hardcore "kaiju" fans (and we all know how many of them turned out for Pacific Rim). I can'...

Re: GODZILLA - May 14, 2014 from Warner Bros.
It's very impressive visually ... it's polished enough that it didn't look like a cheap concept/teaser. I totally agree Andy. I was fooled and emailed it around to a few people before discovering what it was. Even if the tone is different, I love the sheer scope of the visuals here. Yes, the metaph...

Re: GODZILLA - May 14, 2014 from Warner Bros.
Just to be clear, as not every outlet that posted that footage mentioned this - it's not actually footage from the movie. It's the concept trailer that played at SDCC in 2012. The Con this year had real footage from the movie and reportedly the tone was not quite the same as this. That said, what's ...

Seems to me that's about 10 minutes of extra footage. Anything substantial?

Re: Weekend Box Office 9/21 - PRISONERS Tops
21M is a big win for WB for a dark, 2.5-hour drama about kidnapping like PRISONERS. Especially since it really wasn't sold on star power (and certainly Jackman's not playing with type). Great job positioning it in the marketplace.

Re: Pixar's GOOD DINOSAUR Cans Director, Delayed 18 Months
It happened with BRAVE, too, though I don't know much about what in that story as originally conceived eventually sent Brenda Chapman packing. It's a shame because while I like BRAVE a lot (and hoo boy so does my 3 year old), there was a much more interesting movie to be made from the basic strands ...

Interesting thoughts on BATES MOTEL, Andy. It sounds (for almost the exact same reasons) like a cousin to HANNIBAL, one of my favorite shows from the last few years.

Back on topic, I'd love to get that F13 set but I can't bring myself to upgrade (I own all the F13 movies in various forms on DVD) without the uncensored cuts being included.

Exactly Mike. That promo reel could be nothing, but I don't think it materialized out of nowhere at the same time. Obviously it's a concept selling what the film could be -- or was -- even if it's tied into a video game. A bit more info on the pitch reel - http://badassdigest.com/2013/09/16/the-tru...

Re: JURASSIC WORLD - June 12, 2015
Expect more scenes like the horrible climax of THE LOST WORLD when the dinosaurs partied in San Diego... My first though, too. Of the many, many missteps in THE LOST WORLD, the San Diego sequence is the most wrong-footed. It's awful . Logically it's hard to argue you with the idea that they're taki...
