Re: PIRATES 5 Sets Sail With "Kon-Tiki" Directing Duo

Apples and oranges for lots of reasons, but at least because of the milieu I want to point out that we're now dealing with the FOURTH sequel for this heap since 2003, while in that same time MASTER AND COMMANDER has yet to get ONE. Criminal.

Re: Sam Mendes Back in Picture for Next Bond

I'd be happy to see Mendes come back. SKYFALL didn't quite come together as a narrative but it hit more often than it missed. Mendes certainly proved himself capable with the set pieces. And let's not forget, besides Newman it could mean the return of the amazing Roger Deakins to the series, which a...

Re: PIRATES 5 Sets Sail With "Kon-Tiki" Directing Duo

I'm not interested either, although like you guys said it's like spitting at a tidal wave. They'll keep making these movies as long as the big BO is there. There's your NY Post review headline, in fact: "Smells like B.O." We'll see. The only one I really liked was the first one and the onl...

Re: AFTER EARTH - Shyamalan's Sci-Fi Flick with Will Smith &

I'm aware of the modern practice of the embargo which has become SOP now in the internet age, but there has literally been no word trickling out of the major sites, at least that I've seen. Typically you'll at least see a teaser of sorts of the review to come that offers a glimpse into the reviewer'...

Re: AFTER EARTH - Shyamalan's Sci-Fi Flick with Will Smith &

Not one review three days before release...oh dear. I almost feel sorry for Shyamalan at this point, but the dude has been pissing away his potential for well over a decade at this point. This is gonna be the first giant bomb of the summer season (Will Smith's box office invincibility basically cam...

Re: Weekend Box Office 5/19 - STAR TREK Way Under Expectatio

We'll see how well it holds up, but I just see it struggling to go much north of $150-$170 million domestically, which would be a huge disappointment for them. Particularly with the natural ceiling to TREK's international box office. The first Abrams TREK made only 33% of its gross overseas. If thi...

Re: Weekend Box Office 5/19 - STAR TREK Way Under Expectatio

I think this was also a case of Abrams' now-trademark Mystery Box marketing backfiring on him. Coupled with the long layoff between films (as noted), the aggressively obtuse sales campaign only served to further alienate non-TREK fans. Up until the final theatrical trailer (what, a few weeks ago?) n...

Re: Worst news I've read in a long time...

The bleak narcissism wouldn't be a turnoff for you though? As much as technically he's got the goods, if there's one thing the Bond franchise doesn't need, it's to go "darker" and "edgier" than it already has in the Craig era. That would be my big concern. The best thing about S...

THE INSIDER: BD Color Correction Issues?

Andy, have you gotten a hold of this disc yet? The review on DVD Active offers some curious thoughts in the video section: It’s difficult even as a relative non-fan of Mann to choose any film as his most beautiful, but the extensive, diverse, and vibrant colour palette here really does sit apart fro...

Re: THE LAST STAND - Arnold Returns - "Mindless Fun"!

This is getting good write-ups from online folks of our generation who tend to know the difference between garbage and a solid B-movie. BULLET TO THE HEAD seems to be getting the same kind of buzz. Strange that it took the action heroes from the 80's to show the kids today how it was done in the 80's.

Re: MAN OF STEEL - Awful Trailers Officially Online

Trailer #2 is here and somehow, some way, it's even more LULZy than the first one.

I honestly can't believe they made a trailer for a SUPERMAN MOVIE ponderous and boring.

Oh, right, they made a Superman movie ponderous and boring.

Re: Weekend Box Office 12/1 - Holdovers Still Tops

WB just didn't seem to know what to do with this film, going back to changing the title from COGAN'S TRADE (a much better and more evocative title than the WTF-blandness of KILLING THEM SOFTLY, which sounds like a DTV Lindsay Lohan opus). Between this and JESSE JAMES, which was a brilliant film simi...

Re: X-MEN FIRST CLASS 2 - Bryan Singer in for Matthew Vaughn

Yeesh, this was not good news. Vaughn brought a fresh perspective on the franchise and managed to address the social commentary with a lightness of touch that Singer can only dream of. He made a Bond movie with mutants. Singer seems more interested in making a Gus Van Sant movie with mutants.

Re: Disney Buys Lucasfilm; New STAR WARS Movie in 2015

The one thing I am concerned about: does this mean that in a few years we will hear an announcement of ANOTHER Blu-Ray (or whatever new technology that will be released with 2160p, making our Blu-Ray players obsolete) box set that will have even "MORE stuff that you have never seen before!&quo...
