Following along on other directors doing commentary tracks, Kevin Smith joined the director of DONNIE DARKO in the new Director's Cut release. Not a favorite movie of mine, but I'm sure fans will appreciate Smith's candor. Certainly helps to move the discussion along from the usual commentary track,...

THE THING is a Sci-Fi Channel mini-series supposedly for later this year or 2006 (they've already remade ANDROMEDA STRAIN and something else that just escapes me). Can't remember if they said it was going to be a new adaptation or tied in with the Carpenter movie somehow.......I'm pretty sure it was...

I see they bumped up the release date to April 29th. Looks like it might be fun, let's hope!

There is already a ree-release out with Commentary and some little stuff, but I heard the Australian Laserdisc had around 6 hours of extras... I think it's the American disc you're referring to, Roman. That US laser (which is impossible to get ahold of) had a 4-hour (!!) documentary plus a Director...

Special Edition DVDs You'd Like To See...

I was browsing through the Home Theater Forum boards over the weekend and caught someone in Europe posting something about a possible Special Edition of LIFEFORCE (one of my all time favorites as you know). I have no details on this, obviously, but it got me thinking about any Special Editions of mo...

I don't say with this, that you have to like Beltrami, I just want to clarify the differences between Beltrami and the others... at least Beltrami has his own voice! And I can't believe you can hear this! That's a fair point Roman. As you said, his music is generally non-thematic so frankly it does...

I'm amazed at the number of people that keep putting over Badelt's Pirates score. I don't get that at all. That's one of the most blatant examples I've seen of "miscasting" a compser on a project in recent times, at least. And it was the bland, all too typical Media Ventures approach. It ...

Hmm.....I don't doubt that the score is bad, though I'm looking forward to seeing the movie just based on the visuals in the trailer (yeah, I know, maybe that's all it is, but hey, it's better than HIDE AND SEEK, right?). To me, Brian Tyler is right up with there with Marco Beltrami (sorry Roman) an...

nd well... it is so far just ID4 II... nothing else. Still don't know what to think of this... The second they announced this movie and that it was set in the present day, that's all I could think of: what's the point, especially when we've already done the alien invasion deal not that long ago wit...

WAR OF THE WORLDS Trailer (actual footage) during Super Bowl

Just caught a glimpse of the ad list for tomorrow's Super Bowl. Around here, all folks are caring about is the game (huge, lifelong Patriots fan here!), but I was excited to see the WAR OF THE WORLDS trailer is going to be shown -- USA Today ran a still from the trailer showing a car being blown up ...

I have a rare audio tape interview that was sold at Waldenbooks back in '84 with Lynch and Herbert being interviewed simultaneously. The first 20 minutes, they talk about making DUNE, how Lynch was already working on DUNE II, and how wonderful the movie was (the rest of the 45-minute tape is Herbert...

Wow, an AMERICAN release of this?? That's pretty exciting. I would wait to confirm whether or not the TV version will be in 2.35 Widescreen, however -- that is very strange, considering that the movie was formatted for TV to begin with. I have to admit, though, this sounds like a really good release...

I like all of Williams' original Trilogy scores, though I have a fondness for STAR WARS and particularly EMPIRE as well. (BTW, what is it about Williams that his "second installment" scores are just so damn good? TEMPLE OF DOOM is an awesome work, and JAWS 2 is one of my all-time favorites...

I'll be interested if the 2.35 framing is legitimate and not just the TV version hacked off on the top and bottom. VERY interesting news Roman -- I didn't think the TV version was available in widescreen since it was produced for TV in the first place. Obviously, if this pans out, we'll have to work...

Robert Folk's CANT BUY ME LOVE is one of the greatest scores of the 1980s (ok, for me anyway, on a guilty pleasure level).

I'm a big Folk fan. Ever hear IN THE ARMY NOW? One of the best scores ever written for a horribly bad film (and a super Intrada album).
