Soundtracks For Sale

I just acquired some soundtrack and filmmusic CDs via a garage sale and there are some gems in there. I won't take delivery for about a week (it was part of an estate sale and they want to make sure everything gets sold-tomorrow is the last day and after that whatever is left goes to auction on Satu...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

I have read about this film over the years, and supposedly the way the studio redid her script is what has kept Sue Grafton from selling any movie rights to her Kelsey Millhone character. I asked her at a book signing years ago about whom she would like to play Kelsey in a movie version and she told...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

THE GODFATHER PART III is not an awful film, but it is one that as you watch it shows that while Coppola had part of his basic framework in place, it feels like it was rushed through production without as much care being taken as with the first two films. Supposedly Coppola promised Paramount the fi...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

You actually posted the COP AND A HALF poster on the outside of your dorm room door, Andy? You truly had some cojones, my friend-surprised the door wasn't torched, let alone doused with shaving cream....just finished watching the Siskel & Ebert rundown of years worst films for that year and Gene...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Sorry, Andy, but there are a lot of Marvel characters whose film rep needs fixing, so I didn't think I was giving away very much at all, and the two people I was with-who are big into comics and comic book movies DIDN'T GET THE JOKE!

Re: rate the last movie you saw

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: 8/10 The Marvel film universe continues to amaze with this off-the-wall, epic and ultimately satisfying space adventure that begins in a US hospital room, proceeds to an abandoned planet, an interstellar prison, a manufacturing colony made out the skull of a dead god and ult...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

I think the parallel stories of GODFATHER II are one of the reasons when Coppola recut both it and the first film into one epic that it worked so well. It showed the rise of the Corleone family with Vito building up his family by not letting it get "personal" and not allowing outside force...

Re: James Garner, RIP

Both TV series of "Maverick" and "The Rockford Files," with a tip of the hat to "Nichols' THE GREAT ESCAPE THE AMERICANIZATION OF EMILY VICTOR/VICTORIA (he should have gotten nominated for this and the one right above) MURPHY'S ROMANCE THE CHILDREN'S HOUR THE THRILL OF IT AL...

James Garner, RIP

So sad that he is gone-one of the great movie stars of the second half of the 20th century if not of all time, and a great actor in the Cary Grant mode in that he always made it look so easy when it was really not. Like Grant, Astaire, Stewart, Fonda, Tracy and Cagney, he managed to make you believe...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Two other excellent books are: LISTENING IN, by Susan J. Douglas, and EMPIRE OF THE AIR: THE MEN WHO MADE RADIO, by Tom Lewis (this tied in to the Ken Burns PBS special of the same name).

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Had not heard of the Buffalo recreation of WOTW, but I will check that out-thank you, Eric. I do remember for the 50th anniversary David Ossman of the Firesign Theater did a recreation for NPR with some major stars taking part, including Jason Robards and Steve Allen, and actual NPR personalities li...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Have to give this film a second viewing-when I saw it opening day I felt it went downhill after the runaway burning cows and didn't come alive until Tom Jones sang "It's Not Unusual" with Martian back-up singers.

"ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK!"

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Have loved old-time radio shows ever since I was a little kid and we got a few albums that excerpted some of the great shows. Used to buy cassettes and LPs from Radio Yesteryear (which somewhat morphed into the company Radio Spirits) and even got to meet one of my idols from that time-Norman Corwin,...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

For me, another nadir in the Moore Bond series was the use of the CE3K tones as the security code in MOONRAKER. :P
