Re: Neil Armstrong Movie Airbrushes History
I really think people need to take a minute, calm down and actually examine the materials here before jumping off like this. Here is the statement of the director, Damien Chazelle, who is actually quite a gifted filmmaker, as we have seen not only from La La Land, but more clearly from Whiplash. He ...

Re: Oscars to add "POPULAR MOVIE" Category
This is an obvious attempt to answer critics who have long lambasted the Oscars for not including movies like "The Dark Knight" in the end-of-the year Awards race. (Granted, that film got the expected posthumous nod for Heath Ledger, but people have been wanting to see the Oscars give more...

Re: 4 k Recommendations please
I would just recommend that you have the largest HDTV possible. If the set is smaller, other than some moderate improvement in color, I don't believe you'd see a difference. I'm at a 65" HDTV and I'm fine with that. It's possible that someday, I'll move to a place where a 90" or a 100"...

Re: Latest Star Trek Feature Film Attempt - Negotiations Collapse
Andy, does this mean that Hemsworth is the Ted McGinley of fine cinema? (Or perhaps not-so-fine cinema?)

Latest Star Trek Feature Film Attempt - Negotiations Collapse
Industry papers are reporting that Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth have walked away from the next attempt at a Star Trek feature film, apparently due to Paramount attempting to get them to take salary cuts. This is not surprising, given how the second Abrams attempt stumbled at the box office, and th...

Re: JAWS 2 Deleted Scenes, Unique To Brazilian TV Broadcast
Is this the expanded "Jaws 2: The Making of the Hollywood Sequel" by Pisano and Smith from Bear Manor Media in 2015?
There's a lot of interesting interview material in that one, including the infamous fistfight on the set between Scheider and the director...

Re: Movies in concert- Jaws and Casino Royale
Friends of mine went to the Jaws-in Concert showing at the Hollywood Bowl last weekend and really enjoyed it.
They'll be doing Star Wars, Empire, and The Pink Panther in the next couple of weeks. For the last one, something tells me the saxophone player will have a good time.

Re: THE SWARM Coming on Blu-Ray
Goldsmith had his good days and his bad days. Like any other composers, he sometimes needed more inspiration than he could find. I love his score for "Capricorn One", and I say that knowing the movie is a silly mess. I love the descriptions given by him and by Richard Donner around the sco...

Re: THE SWARM Coming on Blu-Ray
There's an interesting dichotomy that comes into play. On the one hand, there are the released versions of movies, which are what made them popular and perennials and which stay in our consciousness - Superman: The Movie, Superman II, Star Wars, Apocalypse Now. And later on, there are revisionist ve...

Re: James Gunn Axed From GUARDIANS Franchise After Gross Twitter Comments Surface
Nonsense. We already heard plenty from the Right as they attacked what they perceived as the morality of people in Hollywood.
This isn't a "PC Witch Hunt" and let's stop dignifying such silly terminology.

Re: THE SWARM Coming on Blu-Ray
I could never bear to watch either The Swarm or When Time Ran Out again. I had enough of both bad ideas back in the day when they were originally inflicted upon unsuspecting audiences. And this is prime "Bad Michael Caine Movie" stuff too. Right in the middle of the period of "Beyond ...

Re: New STAR TREK DISCOVERY Series
Discovery has repeatedly changed its showrunners. Originally, it was supposed to be a Bryan Fuller show, with the contributors including Nicholas Meyer. Joe Menosky from the TNG era was also on board in the early days. Then Fuller quit the series and from what I can see, both Meyer and Menosky retre...

Re: Fox/Disney Deal Due as Comcast Drops Out
The firings of Gunn and Barr are irrelevant. That would have happened regardless of which company was employing them. (And Barr's rantings of late have become sadly comical, in an unintentional way. She wasn't fired because she voted for Trump - she was fired for acting in an offensive, childish man...

Re: New STAR TREK DISCOVERY Series
I finally watched the first season over the past month, using my Emmy membership, which allowed me to have access to the season for evaluation. I'm glad I didn't pay for it. The series is okay. To me, it's essentially the next narrative step from Enterprise, albeit done with the showrunners no longe...

Re: Shout Factory Comic Con Announcements
The one interesting bit there is Starman, which deserves a nicer Blu-ray than we currently have. I collected the R2 DVD to get the John Carpenter/Jeff Bridges commentary - I'm betting Shout will include that commentary plus a bit more love for the new edition. It's one of Carpenter's really unsung r...
