More and more articles are popping up about this dismal summer.
I really wonder if the studios are even listening - I hope they are.
It's not impossible to see some interesting movies being put out, that aren't just comic book adaptations or franchise sequels.

Re: Signal One Entertainment Blu-ray Releases
Not sure about the others but the Damnation Alley blu is mostly identical to the Shout Factory release from 2011.
They've added one additional commentary track and an additional interview, but that's it.

Re: Weekend Box Office 8/27 - An All-Time Low
I strongly doubt that the average audience member in Atlanta or Nashville or Los Angeles or Des Moines is thinking about politics when they see a preview for an Iron Man or Spider Man movie, or for the umpteenth sequel to Fast & Furious or Pitch Perfect, or for the newest CGI cartoon movie for k...

Re: RIP Tobe Hooper
It is my hope that the truth can finally come out about the production of Poltergeist, but we may have to wait a few more years for that to happen. It's evident just from watching the movie who directed it, and the accounts of multiple cast and crew confirm it. Hooper's work on The Funhouse was trul...

Re: Weekend Box Office 8/27 - An All-Time Low
The problem with the movies is not a political one, so I'd strongly disagree with that post. But it is true that Hollywood has gone to the well too many times with its current model of summer dinosaur blockbusters and winter awards bait. The more interesting material is found in home programming the...

Re: RIP Sam Shepard
Those of us with experience in theater will remember him most as a playwright - for his many plays that continue to be performed throughout the country. Buried Child. Fool for Love. True West. Many others. He also acted in movies, and occasionally got to be in some big ones. But it's his plays that ...

Re: New STAR TREK Series - Bryan Fuller Steps Down as Showrunner
As I see it, we already have plenty of good material of Star Trek available to us in multiple media forms. I'm happy to have the complete sets of both the original and TNG editions of the show, and the movies as they were before someone allowed Abrams to make a mess out of them. In the same way, I'm...

Re: BOND 25 - 11/8/19 - Craig's Back
Not surprised to see this, and I think we discussed this around the time that Craig was complaining at the end of the Spectre production. I'm happy to see him continue in the roll. He's quite good in it, and in my opinion is the best Bond we've had since Connery. His run in the role has been a massi...

Re: Martin Landau R.I.P.
Martin Landau was always a good supporting character player, particularly strong in roles like he had in Crimes & Misdemeanors (although this one approached more of a leading capacity) and Ed Wood. He was never particularly good on Space: 1999 in either season, many times wildly overplaying his ...

Re: X-MEN DARK PHOENIX - November 2018
I agree with Andy, but must also point out that Fox is required to keep making X-Men movies (or derivatives thereof) or they lose their part of the Marvel Universe and a reboot would be done by Disney. I think. I don't know all the specifics on this, but I thought that's what we discussed some years...

Re: X-MEN DARK PHOENIX - November 2018
This could go either way with Kinberg directing. He's had a pretty successful career as a writer over the past decade, although the script he and Penn wrote for X-Men Last Stand was pretty bad. Not surprised to see this bunch of the cast back in. I have a feeling a few more of the First Class bunch ...

Re: Next on the Remake Docket: THE CANNONBALL RUN
I'm tempted to go with the old standby: "Why, God? Why?"
On the other hand, I've never been a fan of the Cannonball Run movies.
But if they touch Smokey and the Bandit, we're going to have a problem.

Re: Rockford Files - Blu-ray Complete Series (June)
I've always been more partial to Magnum PI than to Rockford. Although one of our Post guys told me that he actually took the Rockford Files Main Title and laid it over the Magnum credits once, and it fit perfectly... Rockford is one of the first places we can see Tom Selleck, in the role of PI Lance...

Re: Adam West R.I.P.
West was known for being a gracious and decent man, and for handling the Batman television history over the past 40 years with good humor. I too am glad he was able to participate in the Blu-ray set, and that he and Burt Ward were able to contribute some great stuff to the DVD of their movie. (Ward ...

Re: Box Office Weekend 6/11 - MUMMY Crashes and Burns
Hopefully, Universal will see the hieroglyphics on the wall and entomb this idea before it gets any farther.
