Re: OBI-WAN Series - May - Trailer

I have to admit that if I didn't know about the controversy involving the new character, I wouldn't have thought there was anything to get worked up about. She seems fine to me although I can't remember her name other than she's the "third sister." That other villain who seems to be second...

Re: Stranger Things, Seasons 4...and 5?!

Yeah, this season has been upping the gruesome horror aspects. That's been an element since the beginning (Eleven was snapping necks and causing people's eyes to bleed since early on), and it's appropriate, as the "kids" now look old enough to legally buy beer and cigarettes, but it is no...

Re: Stranger Things, Seasons 4...and 5?!

Lots of pop culture to watch this weekend. I won’t be able to see Top Gun: Maverick until at least next weekend but I did watch Obi-Wan Kenobi (I like it so far) and Stranger Things . SPOILERS for the first four episodes of Stranger Things . - - - - - - - - - I’m enjoying the new season so far altho...

Re: Andy's Youtube Uploads - Siskel & Ebert Shows and Other Things of (Minor) Interest

In the past few weeks I've listened to two different podcasts that both had Siskel & Ebert themed episodes. One is Battle of the Network Shows, a podcast with two guys who discuss various TV shows from the 70's and 80's. It's a laid back show that doesn't always deal with the most famous or repr...

The Imprint titles are region free, right? Is their version of The Deep any better than the U.S. release?

Re: rate the last movie you saw

David Yates' bland direction really dragged down the Harry Potter films and it's only gotten worse with this new series of films.

Re: Third Pixar movie in a row banished to D+

Some of the letterboxd reviews I read this morning complain about how cringey the movie is with the teen girl's sexual awakening, including scenes of her twerking in front of her mother and also using the phrase "My panda, my choice!." Oh, and the mom at one point says while dropping off h...

Great quote by Williams!
I was wondering if Thomas Newman writes all his own music. He's got a pretty distinctive voice. I have no idea how hard it would be for a ghost-writer to imitate him.

Re: Minions take over film scoring

Truth. Good article. “I can COUNT THE NUMBER of mainstream Hollywood composers that I KNOW write all their music themselves ON ONE HAND.” The perfect summary that's simply worsened over time. Who do you think those five composers are, besides Williams? I agree with what Lukas wrote on the FSM board...

Re: Me namesake hits Blu-Ray

I've never seen the original cartoon but I totally get MJ's frustration with this new movie being a meta take instead of a straightforward adventure. It reminds me of the misguided movie versions of CHIPS and Baywatch in which the producers seemingly had no clue as to why people enjoyed those shows ...

Re: Rate The Last TV Show Episode You Watched

I started watching Reacher this past weekend and agree it's pretty good. My only quibble, based on the first two episodes, is that Reacher is a little too smart. Is he ever wrong about anything? Willa Fitzgerald was also good in the MTV Scream TV series.

Re: THE BATMAN - March 2022 - New Trailer

Purportedly a 2:55 running time. Further proof of the blurring of the line between a movie and a TV show. A 3 hour superhero movie is indistinguishable from watching 3 or 4 episodes in a row of a Netflix series. Eventually Disney will just make a six-hour Avengers/X-Men/Fantastic Four epic, split i...

Re: Rate The Last TV Show Episode You Watched

It wasn't that bad. I'm listening to a Star Wars podcast and the hosts agree that the street gang was the most divisive part of this episode. (The gang is called "The Mods," both because they are humans with mod ified droid parts and also as a reference to the London Mod street gangs that ...

Re: Rate The Last TV Show Episode You Watched

A couple of shows I’ve been watching lately. The Book of Boba Fett Really enjoying this, very much in keeping with the style of The Mandalorian . Fan service? Sure, but it’s well-done and the complete opposite of the Disney-era feature films. Hawkeye I’ve barely made it through three episodes, mainl...
