He's not loud and ostentatious like Zimmer and his ilk, but he's melodically simple and writes music that functions more as white...

And it seems like almost no directors today are willing (or able) to style their films with anything other than the standard set of cliches -- hand-held shots in every scene, deliberate underexposure, blue tinting, Zimmer-like music (and I'm sure even Hans Zimmer hates this by now).
