Re: Finally, the AFI grows a pair!

It's more like trying to be different than growing a pair. I know I'm being heretical, but City Lights is a movie I saw once and appreciated, but I wouldn't call it the best of this category. This choice reminds me of those IMDB polls that show Citizen Kane so high (I'd love to know how often the vo...

Same here. I've written before that I truly feel THE NEW WORLD may be one of Horner's finest accomplishments, ever. It's a gorgeous score, it makes for a spellbinding listen, and it's just unfortunate more of it didn't end up in the movie...who knows, maybe more of it WILL pop up in this longer cut...

you are the first person I've ever run across that has called this film "pretty bad." I'm glad to be an original! :) Although Pauline Kael called it "inane". I often disagree with people on Billy Wilder movies. I find many of his movies entertaining, and many more are examples o...

Hi Andy, I didn't know about Shyamalan's budgets, but that's obviously important. I am very partial to his TYPE of movie--fantastic Twilight-Zone-type stories centered on character and story, as opposed to mountains of FX--and, of course, he gives one of my current favorite composers plenty of work....

Re: Tyrone Power Matinee Idol Collection (R1) in July

Somewhat OT, but I am going home to watch The Razor's Edge again. This and Nightmare Alley are the only Power movies I own and I really enjoy both of them. (The only other of his I've seen is the pretty bad Witness for the Prosecution.) He's one of those old stars whose movies passed me by, but as I...

I don't track how much movies are making, so seeing this list is curious for me, and surprising. Are M. Night movies making enough so he can keep making them? I think The Village did OK, but wasn't Lady a bomb? And this looks like a bomb, too. I don't really care about anything else on the list. I s...

I thought Rodriguez and McGowan were doing some "Women In Prison" TV pilot. :? Too bad that McGowan got that awful facelift that ruined her great looks (last seen to full effect in Planet Terror ). Haven't seen Planet Terror yet, but I thought she looked amazing in Death Proof. I'd ...

Re: THE NEW WORLD Extended Cut -- 10/14 Release

Hello Andy and all, My first post. I will probably pick this up even though I think Malick is among the overrated directors around because, whatever other folks think of him, I find his movies have a unique tone I find rather mesmerizing. I generally find movies one could describe as "a meditat...
