Re: MAN OF STEEL - Third Trailer (It's Good!) Released

That is a terrible theme.

Well, both this new theme and Williams' theme are in the key of C major. Does that count? :)

Re: rate the last movie you saw

IRON MAN 3 7.5/10 Sounds like I didn't like this quite as much as the rest of you. I thought the opening 20 minutes or so was not well done. There was an awful lot of exposition to get through and it seemed that director Black tried to accomplish this by having the actors speak as rapidly as possibl...

Re: MAN OF STEEL - Third Trailer (It's Good!) Released

Nice editorial by comic book writer Greg Rucka on Man of Steel's PG-13 rating.

Re: rate the last movie you saw

I watched my first Twilight Time blu-ray last night… BYE BYE BIRDIE 7/10 A recent article on the Moviefone website commemorating Bye Bye Birdie’s 50th anniversary noted that the film is largely unknown to modern audiences except for its mention in an episode of Mad Men. If that is true (and I don’t ...

WSJ article on catalog releases

The Wall Street Journal has an article today (I'll post a link but it's subscriber content. I bought the print edition today.) on DVD and blu-ray catalog releases. The focus of the article is on declining sales of new releases and how some studios are stepping up their catalog releases such as the u...

new Pixar for 2015: INSIDE OUT

We've known for a while that Pete Docter of Pixar was working on a new movie but didn't know the title until now. It's gone from "The Untitled Pixar Movie that Takes You Inside the Mind" to INSIDE OUT. Some thoughts: First, Docter must like to make movies whose titles consist solely of pre...

Re: STAR WARS Thread: Harrison Ford/Han Solo Returns

This isn't exactly "new" but this is the first time I've seen Summer 2015 as a release date (instead of 2015 in general).

Re: SHINING Prequel - From the "Walking Dead" Producer

Speaking of TV prequels to classic horror films... I really enjoyed the first two episodes of NBC's Hannibal. Both episdoes were very well-written and acted, especially by Hugh Dancy as Will Graham. Mads Mikkelsen has so far been quite restrained as Lecter with only hints tha he is evil (which makes...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

The last time I watched Jurassic Park was on DVD a loooooong time ago. I ended up fast-forwarding through all the "human" scenes and only watched the dinosaur scenes.

I also watched Sneak Previews and At the Movies all the time growing up. Ebert was quite influential in my love of movies.

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Andy, I appreciate the mention of your concern over the PG rating for LIFE OF PI. My kids are starting to figure out that movies and TV shows have ratings and are asking me what PG means. I'm starting to pre-screen more movies these days since I don't completely trust the ratings board.

Re: rate the last movie you saw

I enjoyed Les Miz more than you did, Andy. I'd give it a 7.5/10. I'm not necessarily a fan of the musical although I like most of the songs. The story is the main attraction for me, with its themes of law, grace and forgiveness, and I thought the actors did a fine job. The second half slows down a b...

Re: Oscars 2013

I thought Lawrence's and Day-Lewis's speeches were really nice but Tarentino came across as quite full of himself. I had watched Searching For Sugar Man the night before so it was nice to see that win for Documentary (although I wish The Queen of Verssailles had been nominated.) I agree that Brave s...

The FLIGHT parody was hilarious. Better than the actual movie.
