Re: SOLO: A Star Wars Story - May 25th - "I've Got a Bad Feeling About This"

The score is fun - particularly the quotes from the blast out of Mos Eisley and the Asteroid Field. Another excuse my friend tried to lay out was that Memorial Day was a terrible weekend to release a movie because too many people are out of town. I slowly answered that I could think of one movie tha...

Re: SOLO: A Star Wars Story - May 25th - "I've Got a Bad Feeling About This"

This basically confirms that they'll need to make up their shortfall on SOLO from home video, in the manner of Star Trek Into Darkness. My thinking and hope is that this will encourage some careful thinking at Lucasfilm about how much story they really can expect to generate from the Star Wars franc...

Re: SOLO: A Star Wars Story - May 25th - "I've Got a Bad Feeling About This"

I had a huge argument about this with a non-industry friend who works in finance. We saw the movie together, and afterward, when I noted the movie was okay but a bit long and busy, I also noted that the movie was not doing the box office it should. I particularly noted that it was bombing in the int...

Re: SOLO: A Star Wars Story - May 25th - "I've Got a Bad Feeling About This"

Disney does have three family-oriented movies set for release in November/December - Mary Poppins 2, Wreck it Ralph 2 and a Nutcracker movie. Nothing Marvel or Star Wars, but at least 2 of those appear to be aimed at big family audiences. SPOILERS: The appearance of our unexpected friend is not an o...

Re: SOLO: A Star Wars Story - May 25th - "I've Got a Bad Feeling About This"

I saw the movie this evening. It was okay. A little too long and a little too busy. Worked best in the moments when Han Solo was actually piloting. There's a serious head-scratcher cameo that generated some discussion between me and the friend who came to the showing with me. That cameo is clearly s...

Re: How the Death Star battle was saved through editing

There will come a point soon, or should, where Disney will need to seriously re-evaluate its plans here. I would recommend not doing a new movie every single year, and I'd recommend a longer break time in between the various movies. I'd also recommend scrapping the Riann Johnson trilogy before they ...

Re: HAPPYLAND MURDERS - Melissa McCarthy, Brian Henson & A Lawsuit

This movie was shot across the street from where I was working last summer on Shut Eye. I knew some people who needed to go over there for various reasons and they'd always come back with a slightly dazed description of the scenes they were doing. The basic idea always sounded ridiculous to me, and ...

Re: How the Death Star battle was saved through editing

Andy, you’re correct that Lucas prefers not to have the original versions out now that he has his recuts. And as we noted, he made his preference clear in the way he made them available on the DVDs. I don’t think he was thumbing his nose at the fans when he did that - more that he prefers them the w...

Re: How the Death Star battle was saved through editing

I've seen no indication that George Lucas or anyone else put in a condition of sale that Disney never allow anyone to see the original versions of the Star Wars Trilogy. It looks to me that this is more of a fiscal thing with them - I don't believe they would want to issue the original versions as a...

Re: How the Death Star battle was saved through editing

As someone who makes their living in this business, I'm never comfortable with people selling what are essentially pirated copies of someone else's movie. I get that fans are frustrated that Lucas would not put the original versions of the Star Wars films out in high definition or even in anamorphic...

Re: RIP Margot Kidder

The first Superman was her best movie by far. She was great in it. Sadly, her problems afterward were both medical and otherwise. She didn’t help herself with her own conduct, unfortunately. And I remember the terrible moments during the 90s where she was already quite out of it. But I’m glad we got...

Re: AVENGERS INFINITY WAR - Mixed Reviews Ahead

SPOILERS HERE I saw the movie last night. It’s too long, with too many characters to service, while basically holding to a pretty simple plot of “Watch Thanos Win”. Enough of this is based on the Infinity Gauntlet material for people who’ve read those issues to be certain how the next movie will pla...

Re: CREED II Press Release - November 21st

I frankly had hoped that any Creed sequel would start with Donnie visiting the cemetery and paying his respects to the three headstones - Adrian, Paulie and now Rocky as well. Then you take the story back to Los Angeles and have Donnie move on with his life. Having Rocky as Mickey in the first movie...

Re: Fox For Sale - Disney and (Maybe) Comcast Jockeying For Position

The article I saw also suggests that Comcast could simply bid up the price and force Disney to pay a much higher amount than they were thinking. Something about this exercise being a bit of revenge between Comcast and Disney - since I think Comcast wanted to try to acquire something of Disney a few ...

Re: Disney Buys Fox, Acquires Film/TV Assets, Fox Keeps Broadcast Outlets

I just saw another article on Comcast potentially coming in on this deal. From everything I can see, it would be a better scenario for Comcast to acquire the Fox assets and programming - and it would be a lot more compatible with where their company is than it would be for Disney. Fox has been on bo...
