Re: STAR WARS Blu-Ray - Details on Sound, Deleted Footage

Eric there are literally some regular AVS Forum posters telling people to stick with the DVDs because its really not an improvement! of course people ought to know better than to trust them, but fanboy zealots just drive me crazy.

Re: STAR WARS Blu-Ray - Details on Sound, Deleted Footage

Funny, with all the tinkering Lucas did that resulted in a crappy outcome, you'd think he'd try to incorporate some of these sequences (instead of the pointless Jabba scene in A NEW HOPE) that actually could add some emotional weight - but no. JEDI for me is a very good and entertaining film but --...

Box Office Weekend 9-18: LION KING Big -- Again!

DRIVE was a critics darling but audiences HATED it (can't blame them since it was marketed like it was FAST AND THE FURIOUS but it's apparently a deliberately paced thriller that turns incredibly violent in the end). The remake of STRAW DOGS bombed (no surprise). LION KING opened in 3-D but apparent...

Re: STAR WARS Blu-Ray - Details on Sound, Deleted Footage

Is EMPIRE OF DREAMS on the documenatry supplements? And are all the documentaries from the prequel DVDs on this set? No Michael, I think it was a deliberate omission, just like the trailers. They've got to be holding them for another release. The main extras are deleted scenes and some vintage docs...

Re: STAR WARS Blu-Ray - Details on Sound, Deleted Footage

After reading some "misguided chaps" on the AVS Forum attempt to claim that the Blu-Ray transfers weren't even worth upgrading from DVD (cue laugh track here), I was very impressed with the whole a/v package. A New Hope looks great, even if it's from a 2004 transfer, I've never seen so muc...

Re: Spielberg Gets It Right

I think there's been a bit too much recently of "movie nerds" going berserk about "Special Edition" edits and so forth. I think directors can and should do what they want provided they give audiences the film they initially made as well. With E.T. I actually liked a few of the ne...

Universal Rubs Out Moustapha Akkad's HALLOWEEN II Credit

Just sickening... http://tinyurl.com/3r9sues It’s a tough time to bask in nostalgia. Between the already notorious (and unwanted) changes to the as-of-yet-to-be-released Star Wars saga collections to a much less publicized edit on Universal’s Halloween II Blu-ray, old school fans are certainly getti...

Re: Two Classic Richard Lester Films Heading to BD.

Excellent, was wondering when these were finally going to get released on BD.

I do think they will be region locked since they are Studio Canal titles; however, I would imagine Lionsgate might get to them here at some point.

Re: STAR WARS Blu-Ray - Details on Sound, Deleted Footage

My $65 Deepdiscount order shipped over the weekend so I'm looking forward to it...the deleted scenes are money enough for me and there are plenty (apparently in 1080p also) from the original trilogy.

Re: Weekend Box Office 9/11 - Quiet...Almost Too Quiet...

I'm guessing it'll be pretty quiet until around Thanksgiving time now? There should be a few good fall movies that do well. Early September/late August is still a deadly time, even though they've tried to change it from the strict-dumping grounds it used to be when I was growing up (when it would b...

Re: Arnold, Willis Take "Substantial" Roles in EXPENDABLES 2

To be honest, RAMBO was one of the best films I had seen in a long time. I was shocked at the violence but the ending (the scene on the hill) followed by the Epilogue actually made me cry. There was no dialogue- just facial expressions and music (in the two parts I'm referring to); despite the cart...

Re: Arnold, Willis Take "Substantial" Roles in EXPENDABLES 2

I just wouldn't have minded less of the "brutality" component on both it and Expendables. I didn't find Expendables especially excessive (my wife even liked it and didn't mind the violence). I think with Rambo Stallone's point was to actually show the brutality of war and not just do comi...
