Hi, John: Check out "The Monster and the Girl," "Night Monster," "Invisible Agent," and "The Mad Ghoul," all Universal titles that had (at least) a VHS release and may be out on DVD by now. I don't think any of them run over an hour but they all have that 'inv...

I just got this set yesterday. Nice to finally have an opportunity to watch "I'll Never Forget You," a film he did in 1951 that has been out of circulation for years. First impression is that, while not a great film, it is an interesting one. Apparently there was an earlier version of this...

Thanks for the information re: "The Plantation Act" and the "Hollywood" series, too. I've read "Speed of Sound" a couple of times in the past - it's nice to be able to thank/congratulate someone who was involved in its creation. Informative and entertaining at the same ...

Hi, Jedbu: I have a copy of your friend's book, "The Speed of Sound;" in fact, I pulled it off the shelf after watching the documentary and scanned through it again; it will be a treat to watch the shorts and read his commentary on them as well. As for the blackface -- one can only say it ...

"The Jazz Singer" ('27) Three-Disc DVD Set

I did a search to see if there was a thread about this and didn't find one, so I thought I'd start one. I just got this today, and I think it's a spectacular release. I haven't looked at the film itself yet, but there are two DVDs of extras -- disc two has a full-length documentary on the transition...

Thanks, JS and Jedbu -- it's nice to be here. I've never heard the recording of "John Brown's Body," although I've read good things about it. I did manage (finally) to find a copy of the recording he did of some of Byron's poetry. (JS -- the name of this shop will no doubt ring a bell with...

Hello: This is my first post to this forum and I'm glad to be here. I'm also happy to find a thread about one of my favorite actors from the 30s and 40s, Tyrone Power. I'm delighted to see him getting his due on DVD -- along with the new set coming out in August, "Rose of Washington Square"...
