Weekend Box Office 7/29: WEDDING, CHARLIE Hold Big Time

XXX might have made a fortune but I thought it was horrible. Looks like it's caught up with director Rob Cohen this time with STEALTH, which received unanimously poor reviews. Obviously THE ISLAND is the flop of 2005, with BAD NEWS BEARS likewise doing poorly (though it didnt cost the fortune of Bay...

BODY SNATCHERS Starring Nicole Kidman -- Coming Soon?

Well let's hope this turns out better than BEWITCHED and THE STEPFORD WIVES. Nicole's track record in remakes ain't so hot... http://www.moviehole.net/news/6010.html I agree with the guy who wrote this up...looks like a check-cashing affair all the way. On the other hand, I seriously doubt she'll to...

I saw WAR OF THE WORLDS in a theater in Belem, Brazil (my second viewing)- the sound was terrible and you could barely make out some of the dialogue (English with Portugese subtitles). Made me appreciate sound systems in America- we're awfully spoiled over here. Are/were you on vacation? I'm not su...

Interesting- what was the falling out? The whole TWILIGHT ZONE THE MOVIE deal (Vic Morrow and two children were killed on the set, Landis was tried and found innocent). Formed the basis of Steven Farber's OUTRAGEOUS CONDUCT book...I'm not sure they ever "made up," and it certainly hurt La...

Sadly he didn't have much to say Trevor about either film...he sounded kind of tired, in fact, probably because he's sitting at home interviewing for hours on end. He relayed the John Huston story (kind of funny, but I think I've heard it before a few times) on BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, tal...

There's no question there's something clearly wrong with Warner's marketing department. BATMAN BEGINS had a deadly trailer that could well have been one reason for the relatively modest opening it had. In the annals of superhero movies you couldn't have possibly edited something together as lame as ...

I lost confidence after I saw the first trailer :)

Looks like it's being dumped on Labor Day weekend -- never a good sign...but maybe I'll have to do a double-bill with that and Gilliam's BROTHERS GRIMM! :D

John Landis Interview Coming Soon

One of the PR agencies I deal with has set me up with a John Landis interview for Tuesday afternoon. Any questions been hanging on anyone's mind for him? This is to coincide with the new 25th Anniversary DVD of BLUES BROTHERS due out at the end of next month. I just watched his recent IFC film SLASH...

How about Devil's Rejects? That thing looks like a snuff film outright. I've DEFINITELY been asking your question a lot, every time I see the trailer for THAT. Well that's a point I agree with. I refuse to cover that film and will not even bother requesting the DVD...I love unintentionally humorous...

Elfman's score is indeed excellent! It's not a classic but it's very, very good -- and the songs are terrific as well.

Likely worth seeing the film first to get how the songs work in context, but thumbs up from me at least!

I find it difficult to defend Bay. I really haven't cared for any of his films particularly though it's strange that I will defend PEARL HARBOR -- to a point. It's no great movie, I wouldn't even recommend it strongly, yet at the same time there are so many people who HATE it (pretty absurd when you...

There's an easy explanation: why would anyone want to see it? Seriously. I mean, you've got Ewan MacGregor -- last I checked he can't carry a movie. Scarlett Johannson is no box-office draw. Together, I think they vastly over-analyzed their "star" potential. Plus the trailers -- like every...

but, the Beltrami-Freak in me can't resist to say, that HELLBOY's theme was pretty cool, too! And the aria for the villains is pretty great too... I watched HELLBOY and the music had no effect on me whatsoever...not that it was bad, but it was anything but memorable IMHO. Modestly entertaining but ...

guess Pearl Harbor sucked, but not as much as I miss...you.
LOL. :D

That was the last "great" soundtrack I bought as well -- though only for the songs (yeah the score was OK but the songs were great).

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. And whenever I see those ads with Ewan McGregor, I keep on expecting him to say "But you were the frozen one!" When I first heard of Bay doing THE ISLAND, I thought it was a remake of the Peter Benchley flick :) In hindsight maybe that would have resulted i...
