Mike,
I've sadly never seen THE WIRE, but have heard nothing but good things. I think I recall seeing something about the third season as well coming to DVD, but I may have been mistaken.

Andy, if I remember correctly there is a whale sound in the DTS mix, but it's not the same was the one that appeared in the original mix. Aaah, okay. I hate to admit this but I don't have a problem with the new sound FX -- especially when the shark blows up at the end of the film. The old sound eff...

EXORCIST IV: Paul Schrader's Cut *5/20 Release*

Apparently Warner will be distributing Schrader's EXORCIST 4 to theaters (everywhere?) on May 20th.

No word on how wide this will be, but I suppose the modest theatrical performance and DVD sales of Harlin's version must have been strong enough to warrant this kind of support.

Should be interesting!

I just sat through another viewing of ATTACK OF THE CLONES tonight with a buddy of mine -- my first since seeing it for the first time in theaters in 2002 -- and it still doesn't work. The dialogue is limp, the performances bad (though Natalie Portman looks awfully fetching in some of those outfits)...

Lynch denied any involvement in or knowledge of the new DUNE DVD in a chat over at his website.

Guess we can throw this to the back of the bus again...

I couldn't believe my ears when I watched the first DVD release going on 5 years ago, and one of the film's most evocative sound effects (the whale song that causes Brody to remark "What the hell's that?") was completely missing! That sound effect *IS* there in the DTS release from 2000 (...

EPISODE III nabs PG-13 Rating

...according to the usual news 'n scoops sites. Can't say I'm surprised, and I don't really understand why it's a big deal, either. LAST CRUSADE scored a PG-13, and the other Indy films were PG (okay, so Temple of Doom started that rating in the first place, but it's still technically a PG!), so wha...

Eric -- welcome aboard. Good to see you here.

One thing to look out for is if Universal's mono track on the new JAWS DVD....is taken directly off the stereo re-mix, just downmixed for mono. Stranger things have happened...

Very strange. Can you send it back? My 2nd disc definitely has unique episodes on the two sides, no repeats for sure.

Scorehead --
They're there on my review copy. Is this a widespread problem, or did you just get a copy that was defectively manufactured?

While it will be great to have the full-length, 2-hour Laurent Bouzereau documentary preserved on DVD (it's one of the best ever done), the real reason to applaud this double-dip is that Universal is finally providing the film's original mono soundtrack (which earned one of the film's three Oscars,...

C.H.O.M.P.S. -- Valerie Bertinelli and PG profanity!

Shades of the SWAMP THING DVD recall! Looks like MGM might have another recall on their hands -- the DVD of C.H.O.M.P.S. they're putting out next week has the G-rating on the packaging but the movie is definitely the original PG-rated version where one of the dogs spouts four letter words!! (Leonard...

I've been down on 007 since the dawn of the Brosnan era. Not that a few of the movies haven't been entertaining in a mindless American action movie kind of way, but rather that the atmosphere and aura that is "James Bond" has been increasingly diminished throughout the course of his films....

Mike, I'm with you. JAWS is one of my all-time favorites. In fact, growing up, I was more into JAWS than even STAR WARS...maybe it's because I live in New England (same as you did growing up) and feel a connection with the film, and also because I've been to Martha's Vineyard a handful of times, par...
